    Swampeast,

Sorry to hear about your issues with your shell. I too am interested in SnugTop because all the vendors I speak with say that if you want the best quality and the best warranty support - go with SnugTop.

Were all of the issues you've had with the shell resolved by SnugTop?

    Hey guys,

I need your help with finding a shell for a trip back to Florida. I found a decent price on a Snugtop Super Sport, but I'm hesitant because other have mentioned they wish they had sliding windows and the ventilation may not be as good as other models (Rebel or XtraV). However, I am digging on the one piece all glass door.

I'm a scuba diver, so once I get back to Florida I know wet smelly gear and cooler will be in the back.

    What are your thoughts?

Pretty sure all shells have a solid rear door. It is the sides that are sliders or vented. My experience is that unless you get fiberglass windoors or get solid sides, all of them will have either sliding windows or vented windows.

Not positive, but I think he's referring to the framed rear windows or the non framed.

    Jalapeno,

Sorry for the long delay on a response to you question. Work has been crazy lately.

I will never buy another SnugTop product! Some of the problems were resolved. The paint around the brake light was not repainted and just push back down. They must have glued it down or something. Very poor work on the paint around the brake light by SnugTop.

Customer service is not at all what I expected it to be. (VERY POOR) My shell was sent back to SnugTop for repairs 4/14/14 and returned to the dealer 6/6/14. I picked up my shell from the dealer the paint repairs for the white fiberglass pieces were done and brake light area was not. The dealer told me the repair was on the work order and the brake light had been rewired. The dealer told me he would send it back to SnugTop again if I wanted. I said not because the shell had some damage from being shipped back to SnugTop.

I called SnugTop and they told me they would call me back about why the brake light area was not repainted. They never called back. Seven weeks later I sent an emailed to Chris O. of SnugTop about the brake light paint issue, the new problems of the seals leaking around the windows and just how poor of a product my shell is.

Her reply was: "I spoke with Mid America, and they will be contacting you in regards to your top."

What do you think about that customer service reply.

I contacted an attorney about this and he stated his service would cost more than the top.

I think they should change their name to Sloptop. The gap around the bottom of the cap, where it should "snugly" fit the tacoma's bed lines pissed me off from day one. EVERY other cap manufacturer does not have this gap. Every tacoma with a snugtop has this gap. Clearly they did not measure twice before they built their mold. The carpet headliner looks like it was installed by stevie wonder wearing mittens.

I bought mine used for $280 when it was white. Paid $320 to color match. I like my topper, I do have to re-silicone the windows and replace seals on the back window due to age. I am disappointed that I can't order parts myself and have to have some authorized dealer order them. And the closest on to me is 2hrs away no biggie but to have a new seal installed for the front, total with kit was $350. Then they tell me my shell need a window to be 100% water tight. Say he forgot to mention that. They won't respond to my emails after requesting a quote to order a window.

So I'm curious since my seal for the front isn't a complete seal. Also has the seal rubbed the paint on your cabs? Thinking of plastic dipping a section and then add silicon to the seal

    Swamp,

Sorry for the delay in replying to your reply!

That does sound like a customer service nightmare, but I think that is typical amongst boutique industries like this. The manufacturer and dealers all want to point the fingers at one another when it comes time for making due. Similar things seem to happen in the world of angler kayaks. That being said, after all of my research on TacomaWorld and other forums, I ended up placing an order for a SnugTop Rebel. I went and looked at SnugTop, ARE and Leer at a local dealer and the SnugTop hardware just seemed of higher quality to my uneducated eye. Although, when I see metal latches instead of plastic latches I feel reassured despite my ignorance.

We shall see how things work out, but the dealer I'm going through has an outstanding reputation here in Southern Arizona. A lot of fellow Soldiers have purchased through them, and knowing how Soldiers can be, if you're keeping them happy you must be doing something right. I suppose I might be eating my words in a few weeks.

Thanks again for your reply and have a Happy New Year!

Jalapeño, presuming you've had your top for a couple of months now, are you stil happy with it? Just wondering as I'm placing my order for one this week.

    Thanks.

    Mark,

I've had the top for about a month now. I placed my order right before Christmas and they were a bit behind schedule with additional orders and some of their folks taking vacation. No big deal to me.

As for the top, I love it. I ordered the rebel model with the sportsman's package option and windoors. My wife and I took a short trip up to the White Mountains here in Arizona last week, and it was fantastic having the camper shell. Being able to lock everything up and free-up space in the cab for the four-legged friend was nice. The shell looks great, fits great and everything works as advertised. Really pleased with the paint and color. It matches my spruce mica perfectly. Remind me to load some photos and post them up.

    Good luck with your purchase!
