Every dealer with a vehicle on the lot has added something someone may or may not want, at least at the OE equipment level.

Bigger dealers typically have one or two 'show pieces' like this one. The attraction is for the more uninformed, non DIY type, obviously. And I would be willing to bet almost every buyer is a deep finance client.

    1) they don't know the value pricing of what they are getting. It looks right, so it must be bad.

    2) they have no idea the quality of the hard parts they are getting. It's from the dealer, it must be Toyota approved, right?

    3) They are financially marginal to start with. After concluding the purchase they would not be in a position to walk out and drop $10k (or even $2k) in mods to make the truck look like that. But spread that over 7 years, and the payment hike is instantly rationalized because their instant gratification gene says so.

    4) These cool parts are included in my warranty. Yours are not. (hope they read all the fine print about that pitch)

Well, if I was a dealer I'd have my team build a truck or two as well. Except I'd use quality bits and have a marginal markup. IE using the truck more as an attention getter while retaining good value. Think Royal Pontiac, Yenko Chevrolet and others........

Whoever buys this should also get a 30' Stanley tape measure so he can be sure to win his dick measuring contests. I've got another $5000 to spend before my all in cost is near the sticker on this. And yes, I've already measured mine today.

I understand that, but why do this to a truck with ATRAC and a rear locker. Do it to a 2WD. IMO, this is about as useless as a 4wd lowrider. The poor unknowing individual that buys this truck will likely think he is "trail ready" and go out without airing down, blow a bead, fuck up those Jeep wheels and then be all kinds of butt hurt. Then he or she will get on TW and post a new thread about how he or she made a mistake buying this truck.

Education at the dealer level goes a long way. The local dealer that services my truck asked me recently to provide them a list of reasonably priced quality parts for building a worthy rig because they see mine every 5k miles and ask me lots of questions about my build. Too many people nowadays are bringing the dealer lifted turds in with suspension damage due to spacer lifts and shit that are being installed at the dealer level and being sold as "off-road" ready. My stock TRD OR 6MT was no where near off-road ready when I bought it.

The reason why the dealership is marking up the price so high is to give you a big discount... so psychologically you think your getting a good deal.

If they added a $15k markup and gave you $10k off, they are: 1) still selling the original truck to you at MSRP, and 2) they are still making a profit from the add-on, so it's a win-win situation for the dealer and at the same time the buyer is thinking he got a great deal.

The problem is people actually pay these absurd prices so the dealers keep getting away with it.

This is nothing. My brother talked to a salesman and said that he was able to sell a Corolla for 33K with a 15% apr.

15% apr tells you much of what you need to know. That person is obviously terrible with money and making wise decisions.

    Locally a Corolla XSE is $26919 + $3000 for TTL= $29919.

If a dealer adds warranty + wheels+ tint + vin etching blah blah, I can see a $33,000 MSRP Corolla.

Would I get it? HECK NO. But as @tacoflavoredkisses1 alluded to, seeing the APR says everything one needs to about that situation.
