I have been kicking around the idea of getting some rock sliders for a while now.

    My criteria:
    • To be used as a step (Have a vertically challenged wife and 2 young children which is an issue seeing that my truck is lifted almost 3").
    • Come painted / powder coated. I don't have time to do it myself.
    • Be a good value.
    • Be bolt on with a pretty easy install.
    • Give good protection to the rocker panels (I am not a rock crawler person).
So after looking at a ton of offerings I came across www.shrockworks.com. They sell a few different versions of sliders for the taco. I ended up ordering the version that comes straight out from the frame and had tread on them to be used as a step. I didn't order directly from shrockworks though but instead ordered from Blueline Expedition Outfitters as their shipping cost was only $99. I ordered them on March 3rd and they shipped March 7th. They arrived to my door here in NY from TX by UPS on the 12th. This was a quick turnaround in my eyes.

I was worried about how well they would be packed but shrockworks has that covered. They were packaged very well and came to me without a scratch.

Like most of my installs I started this at about 10:30pm and finished at 2am. I believe that you could easily get them installed in an hour if you have an extra pair of hands to help you and one key piece of knowledge that I will share in a minute. If you are doing this job by yourself like me you will need some jackstands and a jack. The rest of the tools are pretty straight forward, 3/4 socket, 3/4 crescent wrench, and a 1/2 drill bit (Yes you have to drill 4 total holes).

The sliders attach at two different spots with two bolts a piece. Most of the instructions are straight forward but one part was confusing for me. On the front support of the slider you have to remove a cover from a hole that is in the boxed area of the frame rail. This was easy but I couldn't figure out how I was suppose to get the two washers and nut on the back of the bolt for the support seeing that the frame rail is boxed in there. So I had to email shrockworks who got back to me very quickly and explained to me that you have to slide your hand into the boxed area of the frame about a foot back from the hole to reach that area. Once I had the info I was good to go.

So far I am very happy with them. The fit and finish was great!

This look nice. I see that they're in Houston so I may have to give them a try. Are they sturdy?

Very sturdy. I asked Mark at shrockworks if they can hold the weight of the truck and he said yes they can.

Is that rust on your frame?

Yeah the salt is no fun for vehicles around here. I will clean those areas up in the spring buy sanding them and painting them.

Only two arms seems like not a lot of support, most other other companies have 4 arms and a lot more than 4 bolts per slider.

I agree but then I had to be honest with myself and think of what they mostly will be used for in my case. Like I said Mark from Shockworks said they will hold the weight of the truck. Maybe Mark can talk more about the toughness of the product...

I like the look of these and my criteria is similar to yours. You happy with these as a functional step?

I am happy with these as a step. You do have to keep in mind that they are higher than a traditional step. My kids and wife like having them for sure. It is definitely nice to have the extra protection from door dings and rocker panel damage. If you want some pictures let me know!

I don't think its rust. If you notice, its at the welds. Think it was copper or something the weld material is made from. I cleaned and sprayed Krylon Rust Stop Satin Black on my frame before putting my SOS sliders on. I am surprised and a little skeptical that these can hold the weight of the truck with those small fasteners and only 2 points of contact on the actual frame. I would take them as rock sliders and not lift your vehicle from them. Just my opinion. Here is a photo of the SOS sliders I got, before paint. The mounting surface area is huge and the hardware includes stainless steel bolts. The sliders OP got are really nice, don't think I am beating on the purchase, I would just be careful lifting the rig from them. ;)

Here ya go. 595. 100 for shipping which is the main reason I got them. I live in Alaska. I was looking at like 600 shipping for other brands. Painted them myself and so far I like them!
