It's not the the needle bearing in the 2016 although the symptoms are the same its not it. Like I said before try zip tying the front drive line to the frame and see if your issue goes away, bc mine did. I spent time and time at the dealership for this shudder issue and they found nothing wrong, they are a bunch of dip shits who don't know anything.

Missing My Last Tacoma --- Had 11 Toyota trucks in the past and many other Toyota cars too.
... ^^^ ... FWIW ... That's the reason I left Toyota trucks (owned maybe 10) for a while ... my 4x4 in about 2012 had a bad vibration at certain RPMs and under a certain acceleration load ... thought it was drive angles or drive shaft(s). It was my only vibration on a Tacoma and it was my first Tacoma 4x4 in a long time too. When I bought the 2016, I said no more 4x4s until this was fixed. On my 2016, I got the "rear end/drive shaft clunk" instead. I still love my truck.

I think this "clunk" will be much easier to find and fix that the past "vibration".

When you run an independent transmission shop and a customer brings their vehicle in to have a vibration diagnosed and fixed , you DONT get paid unless the vibration is gone when the customer picks up the vehicle . We cant say sorry but its a characteristic of your truck and we think its perfectly normal .

I was speaking more on the shudder when coming to a stop. I did have the high speed vibes before I lifted but I do feel that for some reason it is not as prevalent post lift. I will check out the fix regardless. Thanks.

I'm glad I have a stock 4x4 Ltd (other than Sumos in the rear). No vibrations, no shudders. The only thing I experience is a delayed shift first thing in the morning from 3-4 - once. I've towed a 5,500 lb trailer with no issues. I've loaded up the bed with 800 lbs of dirt and not had a problem other than a sore back. I'm happy with mine and no, I don't want to go to Hotel Tacoma.

I would check the angle of the rear differential with the drive shaft. Don't know what mine looked like before I lifted it but after I lifted it, it wasn't straight. I had the same shudder everyone's talking about. I put four degree shims under the leaf pack and I actually drove it a little more today, and it is gone.

The Toyota field techs will visit each dealership minimum once a month. Sorry to take away your warm and fuzzy.

I will try the zip tie trick, and remove it before each 5k oil change.... at least I may be able to keep my sanity in check until there is a possible TSB

    Hello,
This is my first post. I have the same issue also. Tried the zip tie helped my be a little. But today put a hundred pounds of weight in the bed back near the tail gate and the vibe was all but gone. Could some one else please try this and see if it helps your truck!

OK here is a question. the people feeling the vibe most. Do you have the factory cover or an aftermarket at all. I have the factory cover and I only notice a very slight vibe stopping. Wonder if that weight of the cover is enough to calm down the weight

    I can't remember exact dates ... I think 2011, 2009, and 2007 ... 2004 (Tacoma's)I and several Tundras and small pickups back to the 22R.

The main problems that I had with "vibrations" was with the past 4x4s. The 2000 (??) Tundra had a very bad vibration ... but had out of balance tires ... and that came up in first 50 miles and was fixed ASAP.

IIRC ... 2011 & 2012 were the worst for vibrations (from my experiences only).

In retrospect ... the 2004 was my favorite ... tailgate inside was thin ... but I love the size of the Gen. 1 the best.

IMO ... This 2016 feels big and almost full size ... and feels as big as my 2000 Tundra. But, i will get used to it.

Forgot to update regarding the zip-tie fix. I drove the truck around for a few days with the zip-tie on the front driveshaft. Oddly, on the 2nd day I noticed the shudder/vibration on decelerating come back and was pretty much the same. In my head I thought "well this isn't the fix".

Now when I go under the truck to check the zip-tie, I see that it came loose and broke off (I had it on pretty strongly). What this tells me is that somehow the front driveshaft is moving enough to break it off (even when not placing it in 4H). Clueless to why it would move that much but now explains why the shudder went away the first day and returned the next day. Anyone else besides @Bossman14 and myself try this out?

I'm hesitant to put the zip-tie back down there considering it broke off to begin with. Basically, leads me to believe that that part should have some free range of movement by design (obviously poor design).

I installed a tonneau cover last night and a bed mat. Together, they're like 100lb. No change in vibrations unfortunately. :(

I'm glad that fixed your issue though

Try going and driving an actual full size lol ... the Tacoma feels minuscule in comparison to a crew cab F150 long bed.

I just tried the Zip-Tie fix on the front driveshaft... seems to be a bit better, but I will know more tomorrow when I am out and about

... ^^^ ... I was just thinking ... :::: thinking:::: .... pretty sad when someone has to "zip tie parts" on a new Tacoma. ...

IMO ... this "zip tie thread" would be most embarrassing to Toyota in Japan ... US Corp. might not care that much.

After I try the zip ties for shudders, I will also have duct tape on LCA's for howling noises and random foam blocks in door panels for radio vibrations. Oh and goop holding front bumper plastic on (leg breaker/bubby lip) because the cheap plastic clips don't hold and keep losing the $1200 bumper.
