Has there been any solid conclusions drawn about the shudder issues that seem to plague so many of the 2nd generation Tacomas???

    No.

Some folks swear it's A/C related and some swear it's transmission pressure related. Who knows.

When do you feel the shudder? When you are idle or breaking?

Neither, it is when accelerating from a stop at around 20km/h and at around 90km/h also when decelerating right before coming to a complete stop (around 20 km/h)

Interesting... mine is a brand new 08 just over 400km and I have noticed the same shudder when braking and it happens around 20km but I have never noticed it when accelerating. It was -7 today plus windchill, so I know it is not my A/C!!!!

From what I have read the dealers have no solutions to this issue, there are several "Assumptions" floating around about driveshaft angles, rear spring windup, issues with the Automatic tranny (although I have heard issues from owners with the manual tranny) I would love to find someone who had the problem and has done something to eliminate it.

Just to clarify, my "shudder" occurs at a complete stop, about 5-10 seconds after stopping. It's almost like something is "catching up" when it does it.

I've a question for anyone who hears this? I hear something while backing out of the driveway then as soon as I put it in drive... sounds like a slinky spinning itself after being wound up 30 times tight.... is that what you are all hearing?
From my awd lexus, thru 4 different AWD hondas... they all make that noise and lexus and honda says it is normal... Let me know if it sounds corney as my description and I'll pull the info off the lexus site and post it... if it is not the sound you hear, sorry, just hoping I can help:)

Mine has no sound at all. Feels like someone tapped the truck from behind.

When most people refer to the "shudder" issue, it's what I described, at a full stop and a feeling like being rearended. It's been discussed over and over both here and on TN. Just search for "shudder" and you'll see.

My shudder doesn't happen when I am stopped. It is like Mike_72 is describing. If I am coming to a stop sign, I apply the bake and just around 20km I feel it and hear it (rumble strip good description Mike), then it goes away before I come to a complete stop.

Next time I go into the dealership I will get them to check it out.

Have you guys been to the dealership about this? If so what did they say? The problem is easily replicated.

If I hear or find anything I will pass it on.

I am leaning more and more twards it having something to do with windup of the rear leaf springs, this is because A) it is much much less noticable in 4WD dut to the fact that the front wheels are taking up some of the load therefore the rear leafs don't have as much torque on them and B) if you come to a fairly hard stop this results it the truck coming to a stop with some windup of the rear leafs, if you then release the brake really fast you can feel the same shudder as you un load the rear leafs.

Not sure if I'm talking about the same thing but mine was making a very bad vibration whenever I would hit a "rolling bump". Took it back to the dealer and it was a loose stock air intake. It was rubbing on the fender. Bit of foam rubber insulation and viola fixed!
