Side mirror upgrade??

I have a 2009 sr5 with the regular black side mirrors. I want to get new mirrors with the turn signals in them. Can i just get some that are made for a 2012-2015 sport? Will they fit?...i know i will have to run the wires, but im wondering if they will bolt right on. The mirrors with turn signals apparently were not factory until 2012...but the doors are the same are they not? Been looking on rockauto and they are pretty inexpensive. I also want to color match them super white, but that wont be an issue. Anyone done this upgrade to their pre 2012 tacoma?

 

Yes they will fit. You'll just have to wire them however you'd like.

 

Ok thank you! That is what i thought. So i can use mirrors from a 2015 if thats what i find. All of the sites to buy them were making it seem like they would not fit properly. Thanks again!

 

Stick with ones from Toyota and not ones you find on Amazon or eBay. They might look the same but the mirrors in them are not the same. You can’t get a replacement if you break the glass and will end up replacing the whole assembly, been there did that. Wrecking yards are good places to look and you don’t need ones off the sport model. The regular model mirrors just have a black cover that can be swapped out with the correct colour sport model that you can get at the dealer cheap. Also the light assembly is the same as an early rav 4, highlander and sienna. eBay sellers in China also have the correct light assembly for cheap.

Wow...great info!! THANK YOU! The main purpose of this is to have the turn signals. So i can buy the light assembly separate and put it in a regular mirror, and just snap the stock color matched cover on it?? Did i get that right?

Do you have a link to the parts needed? Specifically the lights/lenses and caps? I can find new mirrors anywhere, but im worried they wont be exact fit for the caps, and i cant afford toyota oem mirrors.

I am surprised that hasnt been done. Anyone can easily get some chinese knockoff mirrors with the turn signal and run the wires, but i want them to fit the color matched caps from toyota. I will post a write up with links to purchase parts when i get around to doing this.

 

You can google Toyota parts for the parts, but in my checking a 2009 pre runner doesn’t have the same part number mirror that a 2015 has. And they don’t show the colour cover for that early a Tacoma with the lights. You might try to pop off the cover to see if they have the light brackets moulded into the base. Should be a couple of screw holes where they mount. If not you are looking at a set of mirrors to make it work or take the chance on the eBay or Amazon ones.

One of my mirrors is already broken...so i am stuck buying from ebay or rockauto and taking a gamble on wether or not the color matched caps will line up correctly

 

I bought a set of sienna mirrors from ebay and had them painted and I mounted them to my factory mirror perch ... There is a bit of work to dissassemble and reassemble put with a bit of patients it looks like it came from the factory.... Just the way it should have in the first place! Cheers

This thread has the part numbers for the mirrors. They were 2010 4runner. These look like the ones I got.

Ok ill look into them...just having a hard time determining what mirrors will fit a 2nd gen, other than the chinese knockoffs specifically made for it.

 

These don't just bolt on .... You will need to reuse your original mirror mounts.

I wounder if anyone here knows if a newer Taco mirror with heat and signals will bolt on?

 

Good question. And i know what you mean...the 3 screws that go in from the bottom. So those 2010 4runner mirrors have holes that match up to the 2nd gen tacomas mirror mounts?
