I would have at least told the dealer after I completed the transaction on the new vehicle. Of course the dealer would probably auction it off or not mention it to next buyer. So the next buyer will have to deal with it in any case.

Toyota is saying it's in the Gen 3 design and can't be fixed.

Subaru said the same thing on the above ... design flaw and can't be fixed. Ingenuity wins.

I took my 2016 and current 2019 through high pressure car washes many times and no leaks. Yes, some 3rd gens leak. I don’t believe all 3rd gens leak.

Jim....I'm blown away....I will be able to provide whatever documentation you desire when the time comes. Read all of my threads. Btw the wash in my opinion is not high pressure.....look at the video. I'm just telling everyone what Toyota is telling me. If anyone lives in Florida and has any experience with the Arbitration process LL law, I would appreciate any advice.

So your saying at millions of 3rd gens on the road leak under high pressure water? Come on man, there is more to this than is being shared. I for one has washed my truck with a 1-3/4" fire hose cause we can and for shits & giggles on the FD. Dry as a bone. What PSI was the wash, how many gallons per minute, what other vehicles went through, etc... I prety darn sure EVERY vehicle manufactures put there designs through these kind of tests. There is more to this story.

Don't shoot the messenger. It sounds crazy....I know. I will keep everyone updated....I'm contacting the Arbitrator today and will go from there. Trust me, I am a normal guy 60 years old ,moving to the beach and wanted a 4x4....this is my first Toyota purchased in January 2019.

Sure did within the first 15 months and that didn't cover the ones they took care of HP fuel pump, broken tailgate handle, head unit replacement, bad sliding rear window gear and bad CPS....

Bumping this. (exactly coincidentally one year after picking up my 2018 OR DCSB. Lol)

When I bought my truck, I installed my OEM Roof Rack myself. Followed the procedure vid I found online. Made sure to use the foam washers Toyota included. Also my truck is optioned with a sunroof.

Anyways. A month into owner shop, after a heavy summer torrential downpour, I noticed water on my pass side floor mat and it’s trickling down. I opened the glove box and saw some water dripping from the cabin filter area.

Didn’t do anything at that point. I assumed I maybe screwed the rack installation up. But I realized the truck doesn’t always leak. It seems to be only during heavy rain and I think if the truck is parked on a slight incline.

I had to replace the windshield in December due to a rock chip. And I never really noticed it leaking again. I assumed maybe the original one was installed incorrectly. But a month ago I noticed water on the floor again.

I’ll be attacking it with a hose on some of the trouble spots mentioned in this thread. I’ll monitor the thread if anyone else happens to chime in with any developments. Or if I report any findings.

    Small rant:

Honestly for a my first new truck I’m annoyed by some of the smaller issues I have with it. Like from day one, the pass seat doesn’t ever seem to lock in place correctly after the recliner has been adjusted. It’ll rattle until I literally hit the seat with my fist for it to lock. I’ve owned many 20-35 year old Toyota’s for the last ten years and they’ve mostly never had these smaller issues like these. Like cmon I bought a brand new truck so I can have one, just one nice vehicle. :/

Yeah, I’m not challenging that. First spot I’ll spray at various angles this upcoming weekend. While also checking the fitment of the cowl cover.

With the intake flush against the back of the cowled space it might be possible to rivet & gutter seal a channel to divert the water to either side of the intake. I'd just deal with it, document their admission, and clean them out when the mold grows creating an obvious health hazard. Do not let the choice of car washes go unchallenged, short of submersion, the vehicle should be able to shed copious amounts of water without leaking.

Check out my thread "Need Advice" for more observations. If someone can post to this thread, I would appreciate it. I haven't learned how yet.

This is what Toyota is saying"the field inspector came out and looked at both vehicles. They found that the wash at the paper place is the cause of the leak. It is forcing too much water build up in the channel making the water leak into the a.c. filtr area which is why its leaking inside the cabin.....the design of the Tacoma's cowl area is why it only happens to this type of vehicle".
