To gain the full benefit of a suppressor/silencer on a firearm you must use subsonic ammunition (ammunition that fires a projectile under the speed of sound) and has been tuned (bullet weight, projectile shape) to be shot from a specific twist barrel. It does reduce the accuracy for distance, but generally increases accuracy for shorter distances (I shoot my 7.62 x 51) Remington 700 suppressed with 168gr. or 177gr. subsonic ammunition at 400 meters and do very well with hunting and target shooting with groups under the size of my fist (+/- 5")

I get where you're coming from but the NFA is total bullshit in the first place. The background check isn't "more extensive" by any means. They do the same thing that takes me 5 minutes when I'm sitting behind you during a traffic stop. Suppressors and SBR's should be cash and carry after a 4473 completed by the dealer. In 1934 $200 was an absurd amount of you adjust it for inflation, thankfully it hasn't been adjusted since its enactment. Considering how so few crimes involve NFA registered weapons in the first place, I'm not really sure closing the "loophole" was even worth the effort in the first place.

    Just my opinion.

Well I don't know if there's really anything to get in trouble over; the NFA's purpose was to deprive folks the use of certain firearms. Unfairly so, I might add.

It was merely a means to restrict access by making the item prohibitively expensive just as the 86 ban was meant to. For whatever reason folks think the information the FBI uses is somehow different than running a Triple I check and it simply isn't the case. If the govt was actually doing something more in depth the paperwork would look a lot like an SF86 (security clearance). Thank god it doesn't lol.

I completely agree, but the MODs and Admin don't want anything to get political.

We agree on the NFA (and the TSA for that matter) being completely worthless and they only service they provide to the populace is currency disposal. When I said 'more extensive' I mean as compared to the CLEO sign-off which in most counties consists of the Under Sheriff making sure you're not wanted on any felony charges. The ATF does the same thing but they apply the use of fingerprint cards & photos to make sure you are you. The CLEO doesn't even do that in most cases. So there really was no reason for a CLEO sign-off which was being used as a de facto NFA item ban in many counties across the nation. One place where we disagree is the 4473.... suppressors should be the same as any other firearm accessory. You don't need a 4473 for a brake or FH so why a suppressor? While I agree that the $200 stamp was high and adjustment for inflation has been mentioned over the years it never goes anywhere. In fact, it seems most often brought up among pro-2A supporters so I don't know why people feel the need to look smart and keep bringing that up when most anti-2A people don't even know what it is. Bring it up enough and eventually it WILL be on their radar and we WILL be screwed. Currently, there is absolutely zero discussion regarding the cost of the NFA TAX stamp so I don't know why I keep seeing fear mongers bringing it up on gun forums as it pertains to 41F (41P) and talking about it like it's specifically mentioned and already a done deal. Sometimes I feel like pro-2A people are their own worst enemy much in the same way Obama is as it applies to firearm and their sales.

Be careful with the pin tumblers on aluminum. I've read where over time they can round off the edges of the baffles so they don't snap back together like they should. I don't clean mine except the threads, piston and springs. Eventually I will and plan to go the route of letting them soak in solvent for a couple weeks.

I really miss shooting suppressed M40's so I'll be buying some suppressors here in the next few months. I can use SilencerCo's PRO deal for up to 3 suppressors so I'm thinking an Omega and a Hybrid. Both should cover the 308 and 556, and if I plan on suppressing a 45. Just need to start a trust and get paperwork lined out.

I'm patiently waiting for two stamps. It's absurd how long it takes. I've had several security clearances processed in less time.

Of my 3 cans, my rimfire is by far and away my cheapest, most used, and most entertaining suppressor I have. Probably going to order another one or two once silencer shop has a kiosk close enough I can update my trust with all of obummers new nonsense

ATF cashed the check yesterday. Maybe that means it's close

Worked on some subsonic loads for my 708 today. There wasn't enough daylight to use the chrono, but I'm pretty sure my 150gr SMK loads were subsonic. The 150gr NBTs had a higher pitched sound though, so I'm guessing they were a bit too fast.
