Simple Question

I've searched and searched and I find different answers everywhere i look.

Tire size stock is 265/65/17

Ive been reading where most ppl upgrade to a 265/70/17 or a 265/75/17

Local tire shop has a Goodyear Duratrac on sale 275/70/17 for $155.

He said they were 1/2" taller than the 265/70/17 i wanted to upgrade to.

I dont see many ppl running 275's and I really dont know what the difference would be.

Yeah, I looked at that. I was just wondering why i dont see anybody running this size tires. Do they rub? Are they bad or something?

From what i have read, the 275's are taller than the 265's and the 70 is wider than the 65. So i should be getting a 1/2" taller tire and a little wider tire correct?

 

Yep, 275/70/17 Is going to be wider and taller.

 

Thats right. Now keep in mind a mounted tire is about a 1/2" lower than what the tire says. A 33 mounted is about 32.5" tall when on the truck.

 

Depends if you have a lift or not.
You will probably have some rubbing if you go to a 275/70/17.
265/70/17 is the biggest size tire without rubbing without a lift.

I think im going with the Hankooks 265/70/17's

You got those dimensions backwards. The 265/275 number is the tread width. The 65/70 number is the Aspect Ratio (the ratio of sidewall height to tread width).

But a tire where you increase both form the stock size will be both wider and taller.

 

yeah, i realized that after some more reading.

Ended up getting the Hankooks 265/70/17's.

Should be here thursday. Hope they are a good tire. Everything i've read says they are, but ive never known anybody around here to run them.
