looking for some good discussion on the pros/cons of building up a single cab tundra...is it a viable option as an overlander? would you consider it? are there descent aftermarket parts available? thanks in advance!

I would personally make it a street truck if I had a single cab Tundra short bed, just cause for the short abount of time they offered them you could get the 5.7L and then buy the supercharger for it. If you bought a single cab tundra today with the long bed (only option) I think with some work it would make a pretty sweet overlander

i used a 2014 ford f150 reg cab short bed (6.5ft bed) as an overland vehicle last summer. did a 22000km trip all over northern and western canada. lots of dirt travel. the full size short bed dimensions with a leer 180 cap made for great sleeping and storage space. the ford had a good amount of space behind the seat in the cab also, i think the tundra does also. the ford was just as good on gas as my tacoma prior to it was and way way more comfortable. i put a 2.5 inch fox lift on it which made it drive great, gave it some extra clearance off road and along with that used cooper st maxx tires in 33x11.5 size. off road not as good as the tacoma as it was wider and had less clearance overall. what i thought during and after though was that an extended cab tacoma might have been better due to the extra inside the cab storage for things, i might have been able to be better organized this way.. as for the v8 power, whatever, it's not a race and you're not towing for an overland trip with pickup. full size parts for mods are so expensive, add a winch and bumper to that pig fat truck and it is pricey. anyway that's just my opinion based on my experience with that configuration. lastly had i bought a new tacoma for the trip instead of the ford i probably would have kept it instead of selling it after to buy a jeep so i could realistically wheel again
