I'm gearing up to install the 3" front/2" rear Dobinsons lift kit sitting in my living room and I'd like to make sure I have all my bases covered. While I have done my due diligence when it comes to research and implementing preventive measures, there are some things that cannot be fixed prior to becoming a problem. Driveline vibrations is one of them.

I've got an OME carrier bearing drop kit and some 2 degree shims with extended center pins, which I hope will be sufficient to correct my driveline angles and keep me vibe-free. If these don't work, I'll have no choice but to go with the "nuclear option": a single-piece driveshaft.

Here's the (potential) issue: I don't know if Tom Woods, or anyone, makes a single-piece driveshaft long enough for a DCLB truck such as my 2015 TRD Sport. I know there are a lot of lesser-known companies that will make pretty much anything for any platform, but I'm inclined to believe that an experienced manufacturer like Tom Woods doesn't offer one for a valid reason.

Anyone have any experience they'd like to share? I'm all ears.

I'd measure it up and call Tom Woods and see what they say.

    They can't
It would have to be a really large dia. or it'll be spinning too fast for the length. I haven't had any issues with my stock one

I think I have all my bases covered, so I'm not expecting any issues. I'd rather be ready for the worst case scenario, which is why I'm asking about this option.

I wonder if they'd be willing to make a custom, larger diameter driveshaft to prevent instability issues. I'm not sure what kind of interference problems I'd run into with a larger diameter tube, though.

You know for a fact that Tom Woods will build one for a DCLB? That’s not what I’ve read.

All they require is the bolt flange spacing and shaft length from the ujoint on the back of the transfer case to the ujoint on the 3rd member. They don't care what it's going on.

They do have a maximum length that they’ll build, which is why I’m concerned.

The issue isn’t what it’s going in, the issue is to build a driveshaft that long and it not naturally vibrate because of the length, they’d have to build it a larger diameter and heavier material than is practical and worth it for a Tacoma. That’s why people don’t do it.

The maximum length is right in the link shared by riot. 72” is the length of a ACLB OR DCSB, your driveshaft is a foot longer than that

Very very sorry! Didn't see it was for a dclb. I'm sure if you talk to them, prolly for a little more money, they can bump up the tube diameter or wall thickness to accommodate...

If I contacted them about getting a custom, larger diameter driveshaft built, what issues do you think I might encounter? Interference issues, sluggish acceleration, stuff like that?

I just measured my 2011 4x4 AC. 67.5" straight line. Where did you get the 72" ?

That’s the max length that Tom Woods will build.

Just cause you go to a one piece is not a guarantee you won’t have any vibes.

I know. It’s the next logical step if a carrier bearing drop and axle shims won’t do the trick.

I was estimating it based on my spare shaft when it’s laying in the bed of my truck, could be a few inches off
