96,300 matches the car fax milage at the time of the title renewal, so someone got the figure from that. Obviously not a rollback, appears to be an error they made, took it off the title rather than just going out to check.

If I'm going to roll back mileage, I'd buy one with a lot more mileage for cheap, and I'm sure as heck rolling back more than 8k lol

I'd vote they pulled it off the title like @davidstacoma mentioned

Also digital odometers... I have no idea how you would "roll back" one of these unless you replaced the dash and ECU. Or can techstream reset odometers?

Carfax isn't always perfect. They rely on information relayed to them from wherever the vehicle was serviced, so if the person taking down the mileage jots it down incorrectly, Carfax will document that. Then the next person records it accurately, Carfax documents that, next thing you know Carfax says there's possible odometer fraud.

The picture of the odometer shows 130k. Their ad was wrong. The odometer was not rolled back. Shit happens.

Buy a CPO Tacoma from a reputable Toyota dealer instead of trolling Honda dealers, you might have better luck at not suffering from an illusional bait and switch.

Be prepared though, if you thought this was absurdly priced just wait until you see what an actual low mileage, well cared for Taco sells for these days.

Did they offer you a "free" first oil change? I definitely hear you. I'm not even comfortable with the smog tech poking around under my hood.

Yes they offer me 2 free oil changes, but I had sprayed it with fluid film and thought I could open a can of worms by being proactive.

when anyone posts a for sale ad for a car, just assume that 99% of what they posted is wrong except the price and that they have a vehicle for sale. Go in with the idea that they don't know what they are talking about because they usually don't. There isn't some automotive guru sitting at the desk typing up sales ads, it's usually some minimum wage part time clerk at their first job. They just type what they see or think is right. Hell, they probably didn't even see the mileage and asked, "hey how many miles did that truck have?" and someone shouted from the other side of the office, "I don't remember but it was like 100k something or maybe less, just put 90k something miles and lets go get some boba".

That's why oftentimes you'll see a bunch of options, features, and accessories listed on the for sale ad that are obviously incorrect. Power windows will be listed and you can see the hand cranks in the photos. Automatic but the photos show a stick shift, sliding rear glass window but the photo is a single piece rear window, Tacomas listed as Tundras, Access cabs as double cabs, etc.

This is why for any vehicle you are considering buying, go check it out in person or do what you did and try to check for yourself before you even step outside your house. Then once you are there, continue to check everything or have a mechanic check it out.

Remember, everything is sold "as is". Honestly, that dealership doesn't give an honest shit about it being wrong. Someone in the back isn't going to be allowed to have free coffee from the breakroom for a day or two but that's about it.

Well now I just want boba..

But yes, this is all accurate. Half the time they're also using a listing service where they just punch in make and model and a database fills in the rest based on standard features and most common packages. They don't bother to check anything usually.

I listed my wifes car for sale for 2k dollars and the person wanted to tell me that i rolled the odometer back because the mileage rate changed from when she moved to another state and had a completely different drive (which showed in carfax) Those people suck.

There are a lot of reasons to call a dealer sketch, but I'm just not seeing this as one of them.

You're shopping a 20-grand, nine year old, auctioned repo. That sentence would have made me close the tab before even bothering to make an inquiry. o_O

Some repos have been immaculately taken care of right up until the time they were hauled away, but that's more of the extremely rare exception to the rule.

So let me get this straight, OP. You found a mileage error in a used car listing. Then, having never laid eyes on the vehicle’s odometer yourself, you called the dealer a liar, and accused them of rolling back the mileage. And then posted all of this on the internet including the name of the dealer.

And in end, the worst thing you can actually say about the dealer is that someone was too lazy in the beginning to actually go out to the vehicle and verify the mileage. Do I have this correct?

Also, you may want to re-examine your definition of an “outrageous” price in light of, oh, say, the current used Tacoma market.
