The Toyota OEM looks like it fits better than the TufSkiz to you? I see gaps all around the OEM letters. Maybe it's just my own preference. I am curious to see it in person eventually, and to see how the new inserts are attached.

It is just your preference, man.

The fact is the OEM is higher quality / more securely attached. It is not a stick on like tuffskins, it actually has attachment points (slots) to the plate.

Its like comparing side steps (tuffskins) to sliders (oem).

    I will show you tonight.

@tacopromatt Im not saying your letters arent very nice, they are. Im just saying that the updated plate with red inserts is better (if someone wants the red inserts).

Ironically, I am trading mine for a non-insert skid as we speak. I do not like the red insert look.

I'm planning to get the Tufskinz TRD skid inserts. Which red option is more suited for the TRD logo? Matte red or Gloss Red?

    Thanks.

OEM or not, higher quality or not, the Tufskinz from the pics I’m seeing looks 10x better and has way better fitment. I would actually prefer to have decals on them rather than OEM because with the tufskinz you can actually change the color of the inserts if you want. OEM being better is usually never the case.

What do you mean "TRD “Stamp” is no longer the same for the 19s?" My 2017 skid plate has the TRD inserts. The only difference I see from the new one is that comes with the red letters. Can you elaborate more.

I'm somewhat surprised what you guys will argue about on this site. Gaps of stickers on a skid plate? Really?

Sadly I've been here enough to not totally be shocked by it though.

So you going to bang up your skid then go to the dealership to get some replacement TRD letters? Seems a lot easier to just throw on some decals than go through the dealership and then find out they’re way overpriced. You’re just saying oem is better and I can really doubt that from the pics I’m seeing IMO.

That is what I am trying to explain to you guys. Lol.

The updated plate is not just the addition of high quality stickers (tuff skins). The updated plate comes with slots / attachement points IN THE ALUMINUM that secure the inserts in place. The inserts are made of some sort of hardened plastic-like material (not stick on vinyl like tuff skins).

The updated skid’s red TRD inserts will outlast any stick on vinyl inserts (to include tuff skins), by a loooong shot. Its all in the nature of the design.

Its like comparingg side steps to sliders.

Ha! I tend to also have this reaction... I was just trying to prove my point. All in all, none of this matters. How often do you have your face to your skid plate?

Mine has seen plenty of hits but only on the lower part. You can use your skid AND have it look decent.

Alright I've talked about skidplate letters enough for one day... :bananadead:

    Not really an argument.

The information provided could help someone in making a better informed decision. Had I had access to this information, I would have made sure to get the older version of the skid, as opposed to the new updated skid.

I do not like the corny red inserts (IMO) on a skid plate, which is meant to just protect the undercarriage. Not my style.

Not that I want to get dragged into this debate, but using your analysis of rock sliders as an example... I think it's better to compare the OEM red inserts to a powdercoated sliders and the Tuffskinz to a rattle canned set of sliders. Both will get destroyed by rocks or "sliding". The Tuffskinz is going to be easier to repair and replace, just like spray painting.

I have the gloss red Tufskinz and they fit perfectly in the TRD channels-no gaps. Look great and they aren't pealing off unless I hit something.
