I have a 2010 Tacoma with 37,500 miles on it. The compartment box between seats has a latch that is broken, the latch could not be replaced because it deesn't have any part #, so I have to buy the whole box for $320. I have tried to get it replaced for free since I'm just 1500 miles over the warranty and I'm waiting for the mercy of the manager of the dealership where I had all my services done since I bought it. (it was bought in a different location 50 miles away)
What you guys think my chances are getting the part replaced for free considering the fact I had a Tundra leased for 4 years before I bought the tacoma?
Another question, now that I'm over 36K how could I get an extended warranty?
    thanks for respond.

Welcome to TW....as for your warrenty you are at the mircey of the stealership. They may do it for you if they think you may buy a new vehicle from them...good luck either way.

Chances are slim. Broken interior stuff isn't warranty coverage, kinda like scratching the dash and wanting it fixed under warranty.

As far as the extended warranty, you have to get it before the 3 year 36,000 miles are up for a genuine toyota warranty. I got mine from a dealer that I researched here, not sure which one, but there are a few that charge half what you would usually pay. You do all the paper work through the mail/fax so I don't know if you could fake the mileage:cool:. I believe they trusted the mileage that I put down, but I was no where near the limit when I got mine. As far as the latch goes there have been people here that have fixed them with springs from pens to people who just used velcro to secure it. Search and you might find some solutions.

Even if you had extended warranty they would not cover it.

Search for center console lid latch or something along those lines and you will see a number of write ups on how to repair for cheap. Most fix it for under 10 bucks.

Post up some pictures of how it broke. Maybe one of us can figure a way to repair it. I remember there being a thread on here where someone used a pen spring to replace the one on their latch that broke.

Yeah-Not likely that they would cover that IN warranty so I wouldn't hold too much hope for out side warranty coverage. Look for a pick and pull or used parts dealer near you or on the net??

The service advisor clearly told me that it would be covered had I have 36K or under.

Thank you guys for your responds, I will take some pics and post here. I assume something got between the lid and the console when I tried to close it.

Before I take pics, I found this page:
    http://www.rockdamage.com/center console/center console.htm

this is exactly what happened to me, I broke the 2 small tabs that are attached to the latch. The description is somehow not easy to understand for me, but I will try it once they deny my request to replace the console for free.

There are 2 plastic tabs that act as the latch lock. Take it apart and you will see where they used to be. I used 2 small pieces of a paper clip I cut to size and carefully reassembled. Better than new as I don't have plastic to worry about keeping my lid on.

Done, it works great. I used 3/16" set screws. For drilling I used one size smaller bit, although on one hole i drilled all the way through but the set screw is in place very tight.
