As i was going to work today, it was so windy that even trees were getting knocked over. My truck felt like i was driving down an icy road & I live in Cali! I was so annoyed by this same problem that i set out to find a solution. One of my closest friends just learned how to weld so I'm pretty sure i can get it done for free. Probably just gonna buy him some beer because he is a drinker lol. Thanks for the info!

Just curious, instead of welding would a dose of silicone solve the problem and still allow the column to collapse?

My '01 has no play. Granted it's not as tight-feeling as the steering in my '16 RX350, but I attribute this to the fact that the Taco has way fatter and taller tires on it even with 16s. Is this specific to certain years?

Silicone won't do anything. There's people who have tried JB Weld & it failed. But not sure how good they epoxied it & if properly.

Another option that was discussed in another thread was using a machinist's press to dimple each of the flats. I had already tacked mine, but liked the concept, to allow it to still slide.

On my 2003 SRunner I’ve started to experience the steering wheel play. It’s not a big deal as long as my wife remembers it. The older post went to a website that no longer exists. Could somebody please post the procedure again or a link to an existing website. Thanks.

Post 43 gives a great way to do this, without tearing out so much of the dash as shown on page 1 of the article.
