So with zero instructions except the external pics on CBI's website I pretty much figured out how the entire bumper fits together.









There are just some pieces that I am stuck on and absolutely cannot figure out where they go (im going to email cbi, dont worry)

The pieces in the bumper (bottom pic) match the shape of the angles when the two big center pieces are put together (however not quite sure of their location). The 2 smaller pieces on the outside with the 2 holes are for the factory bumper mounting location bolts, and I believe those go to the outside edge of the bumper.

The pieces below the bumper are the ones I am stuck on. The 2 odd flat triangles I think are just reinforcement pieces once the side sections are welded on...but the odd shaped boxes with one 45 degree angled pieces and those other odd shaped pieces with 3 holes i am just lost on. These last pieces I am stuck on also happen to be the final pieces to complete the center section and mount it to the truck.

 

I wish I could help more..not going to be able to do much unless I could actually handle the pieces myself

Well ya. All of the pieces im stuck on are the ones I cant see from external shots...i.e. everything that holds it together and mounts it to the frame lol.

I found this build thread for 4R....but a lot of the pieces are different.

My dad picked up this hi lift for 20 bucks on a whim because "it looked like something off road related" and asked if I could use it...of course I said yes
Mounting will have to come next. I need to clean it with some pb blaster or whatever and get a wrag or cover or something for it. I think im going to just put it in the bed for ease and to keep it out of the way...but whenever I build the light hoops I might just have to drill some holes for wing nuts in the tube to mount it there for poser shots and what not...because pics of trucks with the hi lift mounted on the front bumper look dam cool haha!

k so after re thinking my origional lay out for the center sections this is is the only other thing i could think of. it deff matched a bit better the pics of other bumpers i have seen...but im still left with some funky shaped pieces and those dam box things.

 

WOOHOO!


So after a miserable failed attempt at welding the dam thing together with my buddy we went down to his friend's 4x4 shop to see if he could put the thing together since our welder took a shit (it was sending current through the ground wire to the work material). In less than 24 hours he had the entire thing fully welded together for about a hundred bucks. I can live with it. Now just have to paint it.


here we go, this is how I am going to fill it in. Just need to get a thin sheet of steel and get it cut out.



The next step is going to be to fill in the big gap in the top with some thinner plate steel so it doesen't look like a big hole. Will make the top look like this 4 runner bumper.

no...monte...I was holding the piece to be welded...and i was getting shocked and a pulse was running through my hand before ian was even touching the gun. This is not a reverse polarity mig welder, it was making some weird ass noise too. And on top of that after the first tack anytime the weld gun got anywhere close to the surface the wire would arc and just start "welding". There was nothing wrong we could find with the gun, so we determined it had to be an internal problem.

And I know I have to paint it. Im going to get some primer tomorrow and start spraying it, then like my sliders paint it flat black. Later on when more time is available I want to do the grille too. I'm not brady, that chrome has to go.

And i have to wait a bit for eibachs...lame

And it's all good, would have been a dumb decision and cuttin it too close anyway.
