Small Gas Tank????

Hey guys, my E light came on yesterday, and when I filled up, it said it only filled up 17 gallons and that was it...

I thought Tacoma's had 19 gallons and then 2 extra reserves, making 21? But the E light was on and the needle was directly on E, and it only filled up to 17...

On those 17 gallons I got around 260 miles plus or minus, I have billy 5100's up front at 1.75, no lifted rear, and 265/70/17 Nitto Terra Grapplers...

Why is my tank only filling up to 17 when the light hits E???

 

The tank is 21 gallons ( actually it's 80 litres ) , it's not empty when the needle is on E

You've got 4 gallons of reserve when that light comes on, about 80 miles if you drive it nice.

 

Nice feature esp. out West.

 

Sorry about all the posts, piece of crap PCs at my college, on a Mac now so it wont happen again!

 

I fill up when the tank gets to half. Psychologically cheaper to fill the tank that way.

 

So about 19% reserves. That's good. Takes the thinking out of fillups - just fill at the next gas station when the light comes on.

Airliners carry 15% fuel reserves under IFR, if I'm not mistaken.
