But if the fully extended shock lengths of the OME shocks and the 5100's are the same, then by achieving the same amount of lift over stock (2.5"), you lose 2.5" of down travel and gain 2.5" of up travel with each setup. So the travel is identical. It doesn't matter if the lift is achieved with longer springs or stiffer (preloaded) spring.

Even if one shock is longer, your down travel would be limited by the uca. I.e. you can't increase your travel without going to an extended-travel coilover setup, such as icon, paired with a uniball uca.

OP...as you decide which route to go and working with your budget, you might want to confirm that you can get the tsb done under warranty. I notice your tacoma is a 08.

I purchased the extended warranty with the truck. When I called yesterday they said it will more than likely be covered, I just have to double check

I don't know if you'd lose all of that, but you'd lose some and supposedly gaining it back on the upstroke isn't a very good trade.
In normal driving it's the downstroke that is being worked and to have the spring in its normal state (not heavily pre-loaded), should provide a higher quality ride.

Yeah I meant you would 2.5" of down travel at the wheel, not at the shock. You would have to lose that much. Its the only way to move the wheel down (other than a top plate spacer or spindles) is by un-collasping the shock.
