small square boxes on the ceiling of my DC?

About 3 people in this thread thought that. Go read it. And we are betting that its not for the airbag.

 

After re-reading the thread, I think this picture says it all, it holds the headliner in place. Maybe it helps when the side curtain air bags deploy, or prevents the whole headliner from coming down?

 

The manual shows the side curtain airbags run all the way up the door from above the side mirror to these boxes

This is for adding handles. Some of our trucks, depending on the year and whether or not you have curtain airbags, have SRS airbags or whatever words either written on the headliner itself, or this little box. It's nothing more than a bolt going into a threaded hole.

 

I'm goona go on record as saying it's to cover the oh shit handle spot and that it's labelled as SRS airbags on certain years and going forward if airbags are installed. Purely coincidence. Like I said- on the Hyundais, it says airbag on them, but behind it is a bolt to pop off the front a pillar trim. Popping it off doesn't set off or disturb the airbag in any way.

Maybe it is a anchor/fold point for the headliner, when the bag goes off.

 

The ones Im talking about are for the SRS (they look similar, but slightly different) I have the factory manuals so Im 100 % sure. My 2011 DC has 4 of them. Wish I could post a pic.

 

dummy driving in the Youtube IIHS crash video got kinda fuct up. I guess it would have been worse without the airbags...

This is what I was trying to say all along. I guess everyone is putting way too much thought (including me) into it.

 

Honestly,I think it's a stupid way to cover a bolt hole for a handle that wasn't installed. I'd put a plastic rivet there and throw out the useless box. It has NOTHING to do with airbags. Look at the pic of it removed- there's METAL there. It's threaded in the ceiling.

 

Yea I know. Figured it was for the handles or for the headliner. But was positive it had no affiliation with the airbags. I still would like to know where the other hole is.

In my 4Runner there's 2 which def makes more sense. Just glad my truck doesn't have them, pointless......

Maybe on the DC, the headliner is so big, they use this to assist in preventing sag and the other holes are simply covered by the headliner. I think a rivet would've been better. The oh shit handle would've added support to the headliner had it been installed in the first place.
