Hello all I'm looking for something no greater than 2" of lift and not sure what my best options are. I would like a quality product with the abilty to run a larger tire to get me up to my camp in the mud and snow season. I have a 17 TRD OR MT. I am against using a spacer lift.

Depends on what you're looking for quality-wise and what your budget is, ultimately. No spacers is a good start, but as far as suspension lifts go you can go as simple as using 5100s on stock springs and an AAL (or 3) in the rear for close to 2" front/back for less than a grand, or you could look into a performance coilover setup like King, Fox, Icon, ADS, etc. front/rear with new leaf packs for substantially more $$$ but a substantially better ride.

Both (5100s and most performance coilovers) are adjustable from stock height to up to 3" or so in the front. For the rear you'd either need to add a leaf (AAL) or get all new leaf packs to lift it, and longer shocks to accommodate.

I had a bad experience with my first gen and the 5100s so id like to stay away from them. The OME kit looks like a great setup how do they ride? Mid/long travel is over kill up here in the north east.

Also away from the lift I buy what else do I need to have it all said and done?

If 5100s are more in your budget, you can get a better ride with them by keeping them set to 0" and getting aftermarket springs (OME, Eibach, etc.) to provide the lift height you want.

edit: just saw your response, disregard lol

OME is a good setup, a lot of people on here run that. It's in the same realm as a 5100/OME spring setup but some people do prefer the Nitrocharger shocks over the Bilsteins.

Other than the shocks, springs and AALs the other things to look out for are your UCAs. If you stay at 2" or less you shouldn't need new ones but it seems to vary depending on each person's ride. Will probably need longer U-bolts for the leaf pack if you add more than one AAL. I don't think you would need extended brake lines for 2" of lift (I didn't on my 1st gen) but I'm not sure about 3rd gens. If you have a 4x4, keep an eye on your CV angles after you lift it to make sure the fins of the boots don't rub and start leaking.

You could also just put 255s on your truck on the stock wheels/suspension. See link in my signature.

This is so tempting for me, but I just wish there were more tire options in that size...

I'd stand up the ST Maxx's against any AT tire on the market, but I have alot of faith in Coopers. (Says the guy running KM2s instead....cause they say 'Mud Terrain' on the side ;P)

    Hahaha :anonymous:

I've heard the ST-Maxx are a super solid tire. I need something with the winter rated mountain peak for where I am though...well I don't "need" it for driving around, but some of the highways require them for winter months, and I'd hate to get a ticket over something so easily avoidable.

Bilstein 6112s. Just put some on my FJ and they ride awesome. I had a good experience with 5100s on my first gen and FJ. Here in the Northeast and adjustable coilover seems silly with all the nonsense used on the roads.

I'd say 6112s up front with LR UCAS, 5160s in back with a decent AAL like the progressive icon one.

I'm shocked Cooper didn't pursue the snowflake rating. While they are "m+s" rated somehow the ko2s are snowflake and the Maxx isn't? I wonder if there's something like a weight limit per tire that stopped them from officially certifying it as I have heard that the only offroad tire that can stand up to the st maxx in winter is the duratrac above half wear.

Yeah I know, I've heard they perform great in snow, but just don't have the rating. Cost savings maybe? Not sure how much it costs to have them winter rated

I'm sure it's some static measurement in the certification process such as sipe ratio or tire weight and Cooper felt the tires would speak for themselves without the cert. I can't imagine they would certify the atw and not the st maxx if it was a cost savings measure.

Have a look at my thread, just under 2 inches front and back and all under $800 in parts. Just substitute "Nitrocharger" everywhere I say "Bilstein 5100" and you should get something you might like.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dclb-with-885-springs-5100s-at-0-and-3-leaf-aal.502144/

If you want to spend more than 1K go for the Bilstein 6112 / 5160 and 3 leaf progressive AAL.

Recommend doing the ECGS bushing too while you're lifting the front. Bushing and seal will run about $80, if you need the insertion and extraction tools too it pushes the cost to just over $200. Skip the ECGS bushing and my lift suggestion is about $700 in parts

    Nitrocharger shocks front and back
    885 coils
    3 leaf AAL

Comes in the 255/85 16 us OR guys want, this is definitely my next tire. Couldn't quickly find if it's winter rated, but it is M+S.

Recommend the Bilstein 6112 /5160 with 3-leaf Progressive AAL in the rear... I have a write up on it (linked in my signature box below) and many members have installed the combo with great feedback.
