I have the Smitty RTT and I bought it because it was cheap. I paid $650 NEW when they went on sale at 4WD Parts. It's a great tent so far. No issues at all and I think I prefer the velcro to zippers as I've owned many Jeeps and the zippers will ultimately fail especially when covered in dirt. That being said, I'd buy the Tepui for $100 more. They have better customer service and I like their youtube commercials. Plus, you get the customer service of REI and you can return it within a year, no questions asked. If you can get the Smitty for around $550 used, I'd go that route. I don't see much difference in most RTTs. It's just a tent and as long as it doesn't leak or fall apart, I'm happy.

Looks like i may go with the smitty the guy texted me this morning and said $450 and my rear stock sport shocks. I may live with the velcro for that much of a difference my stock shocks r just chilling under my tool box anyways

Internet arguing about specs and assembly plants is fun, isn't it?

Happy owner of a Smittybilt Overlander RTT tent here for almost 2 years now. Zero issues with it after roughly 20 overnight's in it. People say the sliding ladder sucks, but mine has worked fine so far. It survived a massive front that moved through in South Carolina last year that blew over tents and bent feather flags in half at a radio-controlled airplane fly-in. Not a drop of water inside or any damaged equipment. The foam mattress is very comfortable. I would recommend this tent.

Remote controlled airplane "Fly in"? How's that work? Do you fly your RC planes to the event?

You know, at the price I get the smittys for, I'm tempted just to try it. I'm just worried about the long drives with the velcro cover as I'll have this above the roofline on the shell rack. We don't do camping trips regularly, so I'm not sure if I want to spend 2k for a CVT or 1200-1500 for an ARB if we use it like 3 times a year...

I have a smittybilt, and really like it. Same as webdr, got it on sale cheap when it was first released. The only issue I have with it is that the screen on the door near the ladder is stretching for some reason, but it's not tearing, just tight and I worry it will. If it is less than a $100 difference between a used tent and a new one, I'd go new. But no issues at all with my smittybilt, and I have about 15 nights in it so far, owned it for a little over a year now.

I have the Smitty Overlander RTT and love it. Durability is not an issue and @gainman is correct in stating that they are all made of the same construction. There are many brandwhores here on TW that will tell you that CVT, Tepui, and ARB are far superior. I have friend that own those brands and the quality is the same as the Smitty.

The Smitty overlander tent comes with a slide ladder which is better than the telescoping ladder.

Yea waiting on the fella to text me back he came down to $450 cash and my stock rear shocks so im gunna jump on it. First rtt anyways if i feel the need to upgrade down the road im sure i will go for a bigger model anyways which would be in the 1500-2000 dollar range. Dont think i could be hurting myself by getting it for 450 and stock rear shocks haha

You could easily resell it at that price if you don't like it.

    Good Luck!

Which model do you guys have? the 2783 or 2883? I am thinking about going this route as I am getting back into camping and don't want to spend $2k right now just incase I don't get into it as much as I am thinking I want to.

Picked it up today he threw his rack in too which was great because my all pro ott is still a week out and ive got a trip planned this weekend. Going to cut this rack down to where it sits the tent level with my cab rac and round off all the corners and clean up all the ugly welds this week. May end up coming up with something where i can use the canvas part of the soft topper and the snap on rails with it  idk we will see how it goes.
