Anyone have experience installing Smittybilt air compressors in less than ideal conditions (like in the engine bay with exposure to dust, dirt and water)? They’re designed for off-road use so I have to imagine they can stand it, but I can’t find much on the internet for waterproof or dustproof ratings.

I’d love to install mine under the bed where the spare used to be, but it would get a lot of dust and potentially water.

Would I need to install it in a waterproof box? Any recommendations for that?

I'd feel safe saying marketed for offroad use, unless you know the designers.

I knew they made a portable, clamp to battery style. Didnt know they made a perm mount one too

Being marketed to "off road use" doesn't really mean you can submerge it and cover it in dust. It just means you can fill some 35's with it.

Where ever you put it, shield it as best you can from the elements. If you put it under the bed, make sure the air inlet is high enough that water won't get sucked in.

I think that's why most folks put them in the engine bay.
