Smog Pump Noise on Cold Start

Hello,

I have a 15 Tacoma Double Cab. I believe this whining noise I hear upon cold start is the smog pump. I’ve attached a video I took on cold start. Does anyone else’s sound like this? It does go away after 30 seconds or so but annoying.

Welcome! That is your secondary air injection pump like you thought. I recommend taking the foam filter out of the inside and adding a 1" unifilter to the end. This will prevent the foam filter from getting sucked into the air injection pump and causing the valves to get damaged if the filter breaks down over time.

Thats the normal sound. I think its a little louder after the UNI filter mod.

A little louder? Mine sounds like it has a supercharger on cold starts.

 

Thanks for the info guys. I knew the noise on shutdown was normal but the noise on startup I just noticed. Oh well, I just ordered my unifilter for the mod.
