I just watched the vid and that looks like oil not coolant. Coolant is white, not grey.

I've seen/known white smoke to also be "lack" of fuel. I know that's a symptom on the 5.9l cummins that the lift pump is going out. Loss of power is also an indacotor of no fuel... common sense I know but with this forum you can't be too sure.

I am thinking it's oil as well, I find it funny that the level is not low.

    You've checked transmission fluid levels?

    It often burns white.

I'm unsure on these new fangled rigs if there is any physical connection that would allow transmission fluid to get sucked into the motor. But on older vehicles it was a sign of a failed vacuum modulator. I suppose those don't exist with all the electronic stuff, but maybe someone can confirm that, like @gearcruncher ?

Just a random thought in the midst of this weirdness.

Keep us posted what you find!

Do you have a manual tranny? It could be the clutch or the tourque converter in an auto tranny brunning fluid off and out a vent tube. If it was the clutch burning you would definatly have smelled it, burning clutch really stinks. Burning ATF isn't that bad.

It has to be an over oiling problem not an under oiling problem, so with the truck sitting on an incline the oil is trapped at the top of the motor and has nowhere to go, so it leaks past the valve guide seals and smokes terrible for a few minutes. It doesn't start right away or just on a little hill because it doesn't have time to build up. he was sitting on that incline for a while which allows the oil to keep pumping and getting trapped in the top back half of the motor until it has nowhere to go but leak through the valve guide seals.

I have not! I will go do that right now. I will be keeping the OP updated and hope to post a resolution there.

    It is a automatic.

Do you suggest a oil change and make sure the level is right? It is dead center of the 2 notches on the dip stick right now.

Love the logic, but would be a lousy design for an off road vehicle. Kinda like old OHC 6 Pontiacs with one return hole. When it clogged up the HLAs would go flat!
