That's just plain stupid in any vehicle, to cross flood waters. Rivers and streams, okay. Getting stuck there puts you on the news as an example of what not to do.

I would cross pic 1. I've crossed deeper floods, but you can see the stripes there. 2 and 3 look sketchy. Deeper, wider, and with a lot more current. Enough that the pavement could be gone. If he made it, good job though.

Nope. It's stupid to make assumptions and speculate about experiences/situations in which you were never present or a part of.

You were not there, plain and simple. My friend lives not 50yds from the creek and knew the depth. He forded it daily in his 4x4 Ford PU. My 1st Gen made it easily more than once.

The 3rd foothill pic was forded by several ranchers in their various 4X4s, they had no choice. It was only a couple feet deep, again no issues in my 1st Gen.

CA residents are used to floods, fires and other catastrophic events.

    Have a good day sir.

Whats the problem hear? Crossed all kinds of flood waters in a bone stock 2016 and 2018 4x4 SR5. No issues just a bunch of steam and fun.

I finally got white smoke on a steep obstacle, no throttle, no oil light. If these trucks sit at idle for over a minute at 35*+ they will smoke. After I was up and level again it stopped after a couple minutes. I do not floor it on obstacles, I have fully locked 5.29’s on 35’s. The 4.0 v6 in second gens, Fj and 4Runner do not have this problem. I hope we can find a solution because it is somewhat embarrassing. If you don’t wheel this thread is pointless to you. Other then the smoking I really like the 2GR-FKS as it performs well at low rpm.242B879D-7DB7-4396-9ABA-2A4FE7F9FBA5.jpgBCD7CA72-C5F7-4D4E-92DB-BC1A9CBB2E97.jpg

Where is the pcv located on the 3rd gen? maybe the oil is filling the valve cover for lack of drain back and its getting sucked into the pcv and then burned.

Same place as the 4.0 1GR... back of the driver's side valve cover.

Has anyone out there tried a catch can yet? If not I’ll try it and post results. (I have not read this entire thread)

    Didn't '12 Jeeps have a similar problem?
I seem to recall return holes not getting drilled in the head.

    I would but haven’t for 2 reasons:

    1. When faced with a really steep hill/obstacle, I do an advanced maneuver called “go around or avoid it.”

    2. The few few times I can’t do the above maneuver, I get up the hill quickly and have t smoked.

I wonder if this could happen while launching a boat or watercraft on a ramp with a steep incline.

I haven't experienced that yet, even launching on my own and the truck idling for a few minutes

I read through this and since it doesn’t look like Toyota will correct it, I would try an catch can, at this point it’s a easy way to see if it corrects the problem. Had to put a catch can on a Honda S2000 for tracking, it made a difference.
