You mean the slab, the first time it happened? I was about the same amount of time.

Because to some, a $40K truck is equivalent to a $4K truck. Remember there are some people who buy a Tacoma as a toy for the dirt on weekends. $40K is not a lot if your normal ride costs $85K. There are quite a few income levels represented here on the forum, from the kid struggling to buy a 1st gen with 300K on the clock to get to school to the guy who buys a new TRD Pro to use a few times a year at his second home in the mountains. Hope this helps you to understand. ;)

finances are not always the case either. just knowing how to drive your truck, and its limitations, can keep you from spending more money than just fuel. I know OP doesn't have an 85k daily, he's just smart enough not to "abuse" his truck as that original commenter chose to say..

My truck is a daily driver i put about 300 miles a week on. I wanted something to get me in and out of the woods while hunting. I had always took a interest in off road driving its something I enjoy doing. Its an expensive hobby that is for sure ,but what isn't expensive nowadays. You just gotta know your limits and have spotter.

absolutely. I have an $1,800 daily driver now just so I am comfortable doing a bit more on the trails which increases damage probability...like needing to replace the CV right now lol

What ever is burning is not good for it. It can foul the plugs or damage the cats. Mine has been on some inclines but has never smoked that I noticed. I did get the low oil pressure light which makes me worry that the oil pan is not baffled well.

Weird. My sales guy would not shut up about it.

It's like yeah yeah the truck can double as a smoke machine.

That sounds like valve train noise from oil starvation right before the smoke starts. I can see it being starved for oil, possibly puddling at the rear of the valve cover and getting past the seals into the rear cylinder and smoking.

PCV valve drawing oil in was another thought I had but seems to have been ruled out.

Well they should make it a full evasive maneuvers package and add chaff and flash grenades, too. And more smoke. And perhaps a button so the driver can fine tune the deployment scenarios.

Sorry guys, I know this is a real and frustrating issue. Just trying to have some fun with it. Perhaps the low-torque minivan engine just prefers to be level.

I've owned 5 - 2nd gens, 4 of which were autos. You can make them stall pretty easily.

That noise sounds so much like fuel knock(pinging). But @h.zack801 may be right about the cam actuators. @TheTacoma we need to go out to the slab go to that hill and do some further investigation as its happening. Let me know if your available on sunday for a few hours. We could probably replicate it on the slab itself off to the left of were we went up. @h.zack801 should come along as well.

I am going to pull the plugs and swap them this weekend. I am due for a change in 4k miles anyway, I will be able to report back on how they look.

Might make a tutorial since I can't find one on 3rd gens.
