    I bought this BILLET4X4 U.S. Made 1 inch X 30 ft snatch rope.

It's supposed to be 1" thick, but if you look at the photos below, it is actually thicker.

Did they send me the correct model? Maybe it will be 1" once it stretches out while in use?
This is the correct size for Tacomas, right?

As far as actually using the rope, what are the best recovery points?
Should I get an equalizer strap for the front?
    How about a hitch receiver?
Should I get one of those steel D-rings or one of those rope loop things instead?

I'm basically looking for the proper setup for recovering my Tacoma.

Hopefully you’ve already found some answers. If not, I would recommend a hitch receiver at minimum. I used this one, metal shackles, and a 2”x30’ tow strap from the same site for towing a friend out of sand: https://www.reese-hitches.com/products/Enhanced_Tow_Strap_Shackle_Mount_For_2__Receivers,TSM-22-D
For front recovery points, the ARB one is the most common/reliable I have seen, aside from ones built into aftermarket front bumpers.

Does the pro have a front recovery point? I know the 2nd Gen TRD off-road did.

Measure the rope just above the splice. It should be close to 1" there. As for if it is the correct size, a rating 2x the vehicle weight is a good place to start.

A receiver shackle is a good thing to have, along with both metal D rings and a couple of soft shackles. I like the soft shackles with a kinetic rope to reduce the weight of any flying objects in the event of a recovery point failure.

It seems you have the wrong rope for your rig.

    I have this one.
Ranger Rope 3/4" x 20' Commercial Reliability Kinetic Recovery Tow Rope by Ultranger (Breaking Strength 9 Tons 20000 LBs)

The rope is designed for the weight being recovered. If your rope is to thick for the vehicle you are recovering. It will not act correctly.

They act like a huge rubber band, with the correct weight. With out the correct weight, it is more like a strap. Hard, sudden yanks and such. You dont get the elastic band feel from it, which is the entire point of them. To lessen the 'thud' at the end when the pulling rig yanks.

My '21 has both the hook type, as well as a closed loop. The closed loop takes hard pulls like a champ. Ask me how I know...

I am still unsure after reading a few different threads. Can the HOOK that is on the passenger side of the 2021 Off Road be used as a recovery point. from what I have ready, it is only included on the off road, and would lead me to believe that it is a recovery point.

My TRD O/R has this hook on the passenger side. It's a recovery hook.

Thats what I thought... Any specific reason why everyone says it isnt. I understand it is not specifically stated in the manual, but why else would it be included and much beefier. I also get how getting an aftermarket may be stronger, but I would think that Toyota also put in the point and it would be rated accordingly...

I don't know. The other closed/loop hook on the driver's side is the tow hook.

Have you used the recovery hook in a recovery?

I've used it to pull other vehicles out. Wasn't a jerk pull, but a slow steady pull with a tow strap.

I removed that garbage hook thing from my truck.

Every time I tried to use it, what ever I had on it fell off. Good luck repositioning, getting lined up correctly. Thing is useless.

A hook has to be facing up or have a closing mechanism to be useful. Like on the jeep front ends, the hooks face up.

That being a functional reason not to use it is personal.
Is there any documented proof that the stock off road hook will experience structural failure under a dynamic recovery?

no it’s a recovery hook. It’ll be fine.

The closed loop is a shipping tie down point and the one that should not be used for a recovery.

I used the OR hook during this recovery with a 20,000 lb winch and 300 yds of steel cable

Ya. No one wanted to drive out to me including my buddies with 4x4. A tow company sent out their semi tow truck because it had enough cable.

I got stuck the day before when the ground was more frozen. By the time I got back to it the next day the temperature had risen far above freezing and it was soup.

I’ve definitely called a buddy to pull me out and then screamed “don’t drive over here, you’ll get stuck too!” As he pulled up.
