As the title says today I am ordering a cap for my 2019 DCSB TRD Off Road. I am ordering a Leer 100R to make the bed a good place for my dogs when the family and I go camping. We tow a pop up camper with a GVW around 3300 pounds.

So here’s my question with the added weight of the cap and towing the camper, is there anything I should do to my truck? Do I need bed stiffeners? Should I beef up the rear suspension?

looking for some opinions and reasons. Thank you for any advice you all can give

    This is our Sport with a canopy, and 4800lb trailer (equilizer hitch);
Plan is to add airbags, E loads, and maybe bed stiffeners. Doesn't need it but nice to have.

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
I put an ARE and a small toolbox on my 2019. It dropped about an inch. I usually put Airlift bags on my trucks when I haul. My T@b Outback only drops it another inch or so. When I plan on loading heavier, I’ll bolt on some bags.

If you plan on doing any off roading you should get bed stiffeners. You may also want to get after market leaf springs (recommended), or get some air bags or Sumo Springs

I have bed stiffeners and Sumo Springs on mine because I like to wheel with the shell on. I also like to still be able to throw a load of wood in the bed.

Bilstein 6112 front / 5100 rear (extended) shocks, Headstrong AAL, Firestone airbags, 4.88 gears, OME Carrier bearing drop kit, Aluminum 1/4" skids (engine to transfer). Custom sliders (1.75" HREW tube w/ 3/16" base plates). Custom front bumper and high clearance rear bumper (1/4" steel plate, 1.75" tube.) Apex 5500 winch w/synthetic line (36lbs) and required accessories for an underpowered winch (snatch blocks and extra line.) Tekonsha P3 brake controller, remote start, any-time-backup camera w/ front facing camera, Leer 100R shell (w/e-track single slot tie-down mounts for removable Yakima EasyTop.) Cat shields by CaliRaised. Husky liners, window tint, heated seat (passenger only.) Relentless bed rail brackets with QuickFists (shovel/axe/fire extinguisher.) Hondo Garage Un-holey vent mount. Anytime rear with front facing camera. Billet front seat risers. Viair 88p. 265/75r16 Goodyear Ultra-terrain tires.
The cap alone won't require any other additions and you will witness little (if any) squat.

If your 3,300 lb trailer has trailer brakes (I'd think it does at that weight) you'll need to add a brake controller to your truck.

Do the above then go camping a time or two.

If/when you decide the rear of the truck is squatting too much then add air-bags.

My 2c, worth what you paid. :)

The trailer does not have brakes. I towed it several times last year and definitely had a little squat.

Leer 100xr here, no mods (have duratracs now though) and everything is fine. No squatting that I have noticed.

Make sure you get the special dog screens if you plan on keeping the pooches back there. I also went for the removeable window but its been 3 years and have not had to clean it yet. My biggest regret was not having a roof rack installed from the factory.

Sumo springs are great. Unlike most folks on TW, my truck is a farm truck. I haul hay, feed, work, and sand. The Sumos keep me from looking at the sky when I pull a trailer or carry a loaded bed.

How about running a cap , while towing 18-19ft aluminum boat? Would you think I would need anything to the rear suspension?

Yesterday I ended up ordering a Leer 100XR with removable front window, pet screens and roof rack rails. I can’t wait to see it in about four weeks, then I’ll know if I need any suspension mods.

I added Sumo's to my truck when I got my cap. I sagged a bit after install.
