I was in my living room when I heard a crackling sound. Sounded like rain hitting the concrete. I get up to open the blinds expecting to see rain. Nope, what I saw was a fire in my back yard about 10 ft high. I run outside to see my elderly neighbor just looking at it. I grab my garden hose and yelling asking if she dialed 911. Her response was that she didn't have a phone. Seriously???

So I'm trying to put this fire out with a garden hose and it's close to my wooden fence. The fence catches on fire and the fire is spreading like crazy to the bayou. Yep, there's a bayou behind me. During this, I'm on the phone with 911 for at least 10 minutes. Seems like no matter what I did, the fire was spreading faster and faster. My other neighbor finally comes running out and puts his garden hose to use. Later, my elderly neighbor tells me one of the neighborhood kids started it. Fire department gets here and was trying to put out the fire for at least 30 minutes. Thank goodness it wasn't close to my house.

As procedure, they had to call in an arson specialist. They're now going to question all the kids on my block.

That's ridiculous! It's horrible that whoever (most likely a child/teen) did it with no regard to anybody else's life or property and decided to do it in a stranger's yard. Some people have no self-respect or the means of thinking past the two seconds ahead of them and due to that, they probably don't deserve those two seconds...oxygen thieves.

I bet it's the same kid that popped fireworks in my mailbox during New Years. I also reported that to the arson specialist, so we'll see what happens. Punks.

So, this is a repeat occurrence? In that case, I'd let word spread around the neighborhood kids that you're a crazy bastard who enjoys dragging kids into the bayou, to which their family never hears from them again. If you strike fear, punks won't dare dish out some baby-back bullshit like arson.

Since they're my neighbors, I try to be as cool as I can. We're supposed to watch eachothers property/back and the last thing I want to do is get on a neighbors bad side. What I need to do is have a chat with parents in the area.

After today, I'm beginning to feel that it's every man for himself. On a good note, I met some neighbors that I've never met before. They were cool.

I've been living here for 2 years, fwiw.

If they find the kid he will be charged. All of Houston is under a burn ban and they do not play around when this type of thing happens. The kid may be headed to a juvenile jail for a while, so your problems with him may go away soon.
