There are tons of parts that go into the "suspension" category. You've got the a-arms or other floating suport for the brakes and wheels...You've got the coils, the shocks...Lift kits (either body or suspension lifts, spacers).

I haven't ever heard of kings- but I'm not all that versed in suspension set up for off road....Good luck!!

Kings are good, but they can ride pretty hars. Find out what you want most, off road, street, or both. Many coil over sets ( Icon, Sway-a-Way, etc) have spring rates of 650 lbs.-in. I belive Kings are 700#s. OME coils start at around 590#, and so on. Figure out want you want for the front, then you get to start over and worry about the rear. :D

I have a 3" toytec spacer/AAL lift. Cost around $300 shipped, but I'd like something better myself. It's kinda harsh when off roading.

I'm planning on OME coils (probably 886's since I have a DC and want a winch bumper), OME shocks all around, and Dakar leafs. You can price all that out at Wheelers Offroad or Toytec. Think it was between $1,000 and $1,200 last I priced them. I bet Kings, SAWs, or Donahoe's will run you 2-3grand easily up to 5-6grand for a full front/rear setup.

i run Sway-A-Way's or SAWs up front and a 3leaf add a leaf in the rear and when my tires are balanced properly it rides like a squeaky cadillac

i havent yet figured out my squeak because i bought the saws used and i installed it all at the same time...

like everyone else said though you need to figure out what youre planning your truck to do

theres no way in hell id buy kings at $1000 a set if i was not going to be launching my truck off of dunes in the desert

you can get some ICONs for like $750 or so i think and theyre adjustable...same with SAWs...

rear options of course include blocks, shackles, single short aal, single long aal, 3 leaf aal, and full leaf packs in all kinds of sizes

its gonna come down to 2 things though...your primary use of the truck and budget

you can shop around these type forums though and find some good deals on used stuff...theres always someone ready to try something new...i got my SAWs off a guy going SAC for like $300 and my rear setup with new shocks i got for $200 still brand new because the guy wrecked his tacoma before he could put them on :D

total in my suspension is $500 bucks...it does have a squeak but i got a $1000 suspension setup for half price

I didn't think we could do shackles on these trucks the way the rear leafs are mounted? Unless you mean after cutting off the stock leaf mounts and fabbing up some custom ones?

Oh right, you have an older gen one! Yeah, our mounts are f'd up. The leafs go over them and it's a large bracket that would need to be cut off the frame, flipped, and remounted before a new shackle would lift the truck.

^those had to be custom made. The stock setup wouldn't allow that, and would have to be removed first. As in, cut off since they are riveted on by the factory.

Nice pics though! So it can be done if you know how/where to get them.

so the newer gen trucks spring hangers are welded onto the frame on both ends of the spring?

thats pretty lame...i wonder what caused that brain fart in the engineer's office that day

the first gens have a shackle from the factory...just a matter of buying larger ones

There is a shackle at the rear of the new ones. It's just that the floating end is above the fixed end, so longer shackles will effectively lower the truck.

Not welded, but riveted on with the factory 1/2" rivets so cut/drill them out...

Yeah. that explains it better! lol
