Shoot, annnnd the LS would probably get better mileage in the Taco, than what is in there now, and what is coming...

I live at 6000 feet and spend most of time recreating at ~8500 ft. You really notice engines struggling more under load. I can see why people love the Ecoboost around here for that very reason.

Anything with boost feels so much better over 4000 feet. I go offroad occasionally in the rockies and when you get up into some of the higher area's I can definitely tell when other Tacoma's aren't getting enough air while my S/C truck feels no different than it does at home.

I think one of the reasons the Tacoma never received the dual vvti 1gr is because it will be easier to one up motor stats from 2002 rather than the dual vvti. Sure the "new" 3.5L will have more HP than the current 236, but that isn't saying much. How much more HP will it have over 270? And it will most likely be at higher rpm. I highly doubt the 3.5L will out perform the torque #s of the present dual vvti 1gr.

    ?

If you read this website you would think that most Toyota owners are already disappointed with the lack of a V8, Diesel, or shit box edition.

Yeah they won't disappoint me. I think only people like BlueT will throw a fit. I don't own a Tacoma for class-leading specs.

Lol, yeah I wish I could have taken my 2012 4cyl Reg cab 5mt on a test drive up even a little of i70 west in Colorado... wouldn't have bought it... happy to not have it anymore. Not the trucks fault...

I'll be sure to test drive the new one properly. My ram ecodiesel is officially a lemon, 75 days total in the shop, just got a new motor and was gone for 34 days straight... and today, two days after picking up, where am i? Sitting in a chair at the $!#@ING dealership waiting room.

Tldr; i'll probably buy a new taCo despite being kinda...fug... and even if it's less powerful than a domestic half ton while being more expensive... since my domestic experience has gone horribly wrong... just hope the taco can tow the better part of 7k lbs

Sucks you had issues with your Ram. I'd be pissed too. If you tow that much I'd go for a Tundra though. Capacity on new Taco will be around 6800 lbs. The Tacoma will no doubt be sweating bullets when towing anything near that.

For 7K of towing weight you should really go full sized like someone else suggested. It's not so much about whether you're under or over capacity even, it's more about being able to handle the thing at the altitudes you are talking about. I'd give some serious looks at the new F150 with the 3.5 L Ecoboost. Not for mileage or anything but for the ability to tow well at high altitude.

Also sorry about your Ram. I remember you and I going back and forth a few times over the Ecodiesel but I never imagined it would fail that hard on you. My work Ram 2500 has been a POS as well so at least I somewhat feel your pain. Hopefully your next truck works out much better no matter what emblem is on the front.

The economy shit the bed just as the Alabama engine line would have been upgraded to the dual VVTi 1GR. That is much more likely of a reason that the Tacoma didn't get the newer 1GR.

...But keep on pitching these conspiracy theories that Toyota wants to put a worse engine in their new truck that now actually has competition.

Sheesh. People just don't get it. I'm beginning to think that these people think that the new engine is going to have worse performance based on the fact that it's a 3.5L replacing a 4.0L. In that case I guess Porsche is going down the tubes because most of their lineup run sub-4-litre 6 cylinder engines; mostly 3.6s or 3.8s, which make 300+HP and 300+TQ easy (Minus the new long-stroke 4.0L they just stuffed in the back of the 911 GT3 RS, which makes 500HP). They do this by upping the compression ratio. The old 3.0L out of the Mitsubishi 3000gt VR-4 made 320Hp-300TQ (I think) by adding boost with twin-turbos (in-turn upping compression). Toyota could have a plan for a higher compression ratio in this new engine.

Some of you are getting stuck on the phrase "akinson cycle" in regards to this engine as well. Remember that the akinson cycle is just different valve timing. Manufacturers like Toyota and Honda have been running retarded-timed engines in the forms of VVT-i and VTec for years.

If this post makes no sense, forgive me, I'm dead tired.

The simulated Atkinson cycle is only when we want it, right? The low lift vtec is held off when the eco button is OFF in our civic. Do we get to select the simulated Atkinson timing?

Are you saying that Vtec doesn't make my civic any faster??
