You guys are being Naive. We aren't going to get bigger engines or diesels until the Gov relaxes emission regulations. Ive said it twice; ALL truck engines are getting smaller.

I believe you're correct. Even Class 8 engines are shrinking in Large rigs. They're supposed to shrink in size by around 3% by 2018. I wouldn't lose sleep over a 3.5.

BlueT, please tell me today why you hate the gen 3 trucks, and why you continue to stay in the pool with us?

I hate Fords, but i dont spend my day on the forums telling them they should go get thier EGR delete kits before EXPLOSIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!OH YEAH, FORDS SUCK!!!!!!! CRAPPY DESIGN!!!! LOOK AT ME, I HATE FORDS!!!!!!!

sorry, back to topic, why do you hate gen 3s? Im happy that the engine will put out more power than the 4.0 and most likely (I do not have any clue) will have better fuel economy. I bet it will tow just fine. ahh, sorry the town is back THAT way.

I dunno, I have read some feel the HiLux rides better. I do my own suspension tuning...so doesn't matter what stock is one way or another.

    http://overlandexpo.squarespace.com...2/11/16/forbidden-fruit-the-toyota-hilux.html

Granted the HiLux and the Tacoma share a lot of the same components now, it is the little differences, that make the HiLux better.

There are some of us old timers that all we care is about is efficiency...we want a 30 mpg 4WD Tacoma, I can see if it didn't exist elswhere....we probably wouldn't bitch.

Me I don't care how small the engine is...I would most likely pick the 2.5 diesel which has 253 ft/lbs of torque more than enough for me.

A 30 mpg 4WD Tacoma will exist here in the near future, and I heard they are going to call it a Colorado. :D :p

Colorado has some weird quirks but looks promising with the diesel.

The Hilux is a Hilux; performing as a Hilux does.

The Tacoma is a Tacoma; performing as a Tacoma does.

Toyota isn't going to combine the two platforms for a minority of their buyers. If you (I speak to those who are unappreciative of the new truck) do not like the way Toyota has defined the Tacoma as a light-duty pickup, buy a different truck. Pay mind that Toyota is staying to the definition of a Tacoma that they have had for many past years.

I don't see any of these performance number guesstimates for the new Tacoma changing this truck's definition very much.

    Let me try to recap:

No 4.0L, no wait, no Diesel, no wait, no V8, no wait, no [insert other than 3.5L V6]...

Its a car engine, no wait, its a van engine, no wait its [insert obscurity here].. I forgot how this went actually

    Frame will rust...

It won't tow an imaginary load that I would never have to tow anyways....

HP = (Torque x RPMs)/5252 = This truck is powered by an eggbeater because hypothetical 270HP and I don't know how this calculation actually works...

Torque will suck because you need bigger leverage parts and I don't know what Im talking about again...

Its based off of a Van and the Ridgeline is better... (But Ridgeline is built off the Honda Odyssey platform :confused:)

Not enough main crank bearings... o_O

Probably the real reason he doesn't like it: Because Chevy forums is running a supper secret smear campaign and sending BlueT to troll Toyota forums in order to convince everyone that new Tacoma is a Van with a car engine that makes horsepower like an eggbeater and has no torquey internals and will rust in a year and can't tow the tank you guys keep in the backyard.

Guys, let me know if I missed something.

Don't have a problem with the Tacoma being defined as a light duty truck, (why I started buying the little trucks 25 years ago) I don't need massive amounts of power, nor do I need it to tow like a half ton...I do however...if it is going to be a defined as light duty truck...it needs to get light truck stellar fuel economy, the way it is now... it is full size truck fuel economy, or the lack there of. My '85 could get 23-24 mpg...we have gone backwards in fuel economy. Sure we can blame it on numerous amount of things, but a 30 mpg light truck does exist, Toyota for some reason refuses to give the American market that truck. Who knew Ram and GM would beat them to the punch.

I am sure the new Tacoma will be fine, I highly doubt it will get 30 mpg though. We will see when (if!?) they release the final specs, but I am not holding my breath.

Would buy a Ram EcoDiesel, it weren't a damn Chrysler product. Might take a chance with the diesel Colorado, tired of waiting on Toyota.

Thing the is will the fuel cost cover off the difference in price for however long you own it...

Talking with you, probably because you seem to hold onto vehicles well, but for 90% of car buyers the Diesel initial cost will outweigh even 50% fuel savings over 3 years.

30 mpg doesn't mean anything to an average buyer if it costs $5K more to get it.

Also folks, remember, any Hilux that comes over here will have to pass all the safety tests. The level of Hilux that does that is the one in Europe and that truck isn't cheap. That $12,000 (just a guess on price, I'm not doing the math but it's been said before) base model Diesel from Thailand is missing a pile of features that are required by the DOT for a vehicle to be accepted for sale. By the time you add those you are into European Hilux pricing which is slightly higher than even the Tacoma IIRC.

That and trying to predict future fuel costs, damn near impossible...diesel has been cheaper than 91 here for a year now, 5 years from now...who knows.

Yeah, people get bored and flip them quick..they'll never recoup the upcharge. Me, I like putting 300,000 miles on my vehicles, takes me about 15 years to do that. We are a rare breed, very few of us that will buy either new or low mile vehicles and run them until the wheels fall off, then buy another repeat. Definitely not Toyotas "new" target market. Toyota used to run ads boasting about how many miles people put on them, now it it was apps it comes with, the way computer tech is ever evolving...doesn't take long for the tech in vehicles to be out of date.

We will see how the GM diesel experiment goes...I for one can't wait for it to hit the dealer floor. The Tacoma...meh not so much...

Sure I could run out and buy a Subaru, to get that 30+ mpg, AWD...I even rented one for 2 weeks to see if I like it, because it can do most of what a Tacoma can do... couldn't wait to get back in my Tacoma, only thing I don't like about the Tacoma is the fuel consumption, down right dismal for such a small light duty vehicle.
