I have a reg cab 2.7 auto 4.10 gears on 31x10.5x15 km3’s, they weigh about 50lbs each tire, I have the aluminum wheels from american racing ar172 they weigh about 16lbs, much less than the stock 20lb ones. I wanted to get 33x10.5x15 ko2’s they weigh about the same 50lbs, the truck is sluggish with these km3’s tbh, I want the 33’s but not if theyre gonna be the same as the km3’s or worst even worse. I dont want to regear now as a regear would net me wanting to do a front locker aswell and I would have to drop $2k on that. Or should I just stick to 31’s on ko2’s? Im more of a softroader tbh, rock crawling and getting sideways aint really my thing, so I feel I dont really need the 33’s, I feel though that the 33’s might be better cus the km3’s tread is so aggresive I dont even need to brake, the tread alone slows it down, and the tread on the ko2’s are less aggresive, idk what yall think? I’m leaning 31 ko2’s.

Stock gears? Our trucks are geared for the stock tire sizes so a dramatic change in one should go with a change in the other plus extra for wheel weight.

At least it’s a first gen so lighter than 2nd gen 2.7’s like mine but tires and drive ratios are mated at the factory by model. Only way to fix the lack of torque is by changing the 3rd member gears to match again.

Use the tire size calculator tool. It lets you play with both tire and wheel sizes as well as different rear axle ratios showing changes in speed.

You would really want to check your actual speed via GPS or a radar trap. My truck had 285/75/16 tires when I got it and I upgraded to 305/65/17 which is about the same (33's) just wider. My speedo was dead on with radar traps but I don't know if a previous owner had it reprogrammed or if the stock Toyota programming has some error built in knowing a lot of owners will upgrade the size. The 4 cyl is pretty gutless so running tires in the 30-33" range is a slug (with the A4 automatic trans) regardless of which size you go with.

I know with stock tires (245/75-16) my Speedo read faster than what the gps said, and it would be farther off the faster I went, with 265/75-16 it was dead on all the the time at all speeds, and now with 285/75-16 the speedo is slower than what I’m actually doing. Seems like below 40 it’s negligible but I know like when it says 65 I’m doing 67-68 and when it read 70 I’m doing 74-75. My truck uses the wheel speed/abs sensors for the speedo so regearing didn’t effect anything as far as the speedo is concerned

My experience with and ultraguage was it showed the same error as the speedo, makes sense because it works off of the same sensors so it shows the same info. Later I did find out that you can go into the settings and recalibrate the ultraguage to account for different tire sizes, I’m not familiar with the scanguage but I’d imagine they are pretty similar products.

I have been extremely absent and busy with my 80series. Yes it's worth it. Build it and enjoy it. My truck left my shop for the first time in a year in October I don't have image hosting anymore so check my IG @4cyl4lowlife for the most recent updates. Ordering 37s in the new year

Any recommendations for a bigger tire option on the stock 15" rims? I rarely off-road, mainly for commuting to work and taking on the dips in the road.

Just realized that the 2nd gen tundra wheels (18") are the same style and as the 15" wheels on my 2.7L, has anyone ever tried putting them on their 4-banger? They are both 5 luggers but I don't know if it's an identical pattern.

    Nope, tundra 5-lug is 5 x 150, tacoma is 5 x 114.3.
