How low you go with your tires does depend on the tire itself. If you're running say an E rated tire, it will take the lower pressures much better than a P rated tire (less likely to fold on itself) but regardless, you can go pretty low, even with stock tires.

You are correct in that LT is it's own animal and I'm no where near versed enough to give you all the advantages/disadvantages of the systems. For slow speed stuff, I gave you some of the perks, the draw backs would be using as a daily driver, your handling would be much different and less desirable for a pavement pounder. Aside from cost, your intended use could drive you toward LT or, maybe a decent mid-travel setup is all you'd ever really need. Hell, you can get through some pretty decent stuff with just the Old Man Emu kit, rock sliders, good tires, a set of skids and handy wheel work.

long travel is more expensive and widens your wheel base.... that is beneficial for handling and control but if your on narrow trails that can be a slight draw back. You will also need to do a lot of cutting of the fenders in the front or go with fiberglass fenders. You will also need to cut shock hoops to in the bed of the truck to fit longer shocks. definitely do a lot of research before you decide to do anything. Mid travel is mostly bolt on suspension and is about as much as you can get out of you truck without cutting, unless you want to fit larger tires. 33" tires is about as large as you can go. you will still need to do a cmc (cab mount chop).

ill have to look up old man emu kit, but rock sliders and skids (since i noticed ifs skids and transmission skids can be very useful) are about the only actual modification im planning to do. i might just dive in for the winch mount bumper thats being developed for 12+ but not with the idea its going to save my ass, ive done much more pulling than having been pulled. ill look more into tire ratings also, thanks for the tip.

isnt the baja suspension edging into the mid-travel realm?

not quite... mid travel will be more travel than the baja
but if you want to put a winch and bumper you'll need to do at least the coils for the extra weight.

winch plus bumper shouldnt add more than 100lbs, im waiting on the in bumper winch mount as it gets developed instead of a full on plate bumper.

by coil you just mean spring, correct? i assume they would sell the springs by the intended weight they are to carry and height?

This was going to be my first suggestion. Baby steps, find a dirt road to a camp site that has some amenities like a bathroom and running water for weekend trips. You will be surprised at how much stuff you realize you need, luckily it's a short trip.

yeah springs... what kind of bumper are you thinking? tube steel will be light, but if you are going with a plated bumper they weigh anywhere from 50 (aluminum) to 150 pounds (steel) and then add the weight of the winch...

did you want to use the stock bumper with a winch in it? that should be no problem.

as for fix a flat, been told its a no no with tpms. Maybe consider a fridge if you're doing long trips. This would be a crucial thing for me.

yeah definitely not! plug kit and full size spare all the way. ive carried a compressor with me for a few years. im surprised how well this cheapie wallyworld $50 slime compressor has held up.

as far as the fridge.. i dont know if im ready for that kind of commitment yet.. ill start out with a cooler and a ton of ice.. i dont think id like to hear the hum of a refrigerator compressor while trying to enjoy the good stuff.

i prefer that one, minor trimming as compared to the one you've seen on here being developed.

I have one of those compressors too, sometimes takes a while to fill up, but well worth the money.

agreed, i think that truck just sold me on a few things! that compressor has been a dream. sure.. it might take a little while.. but i have had zero issues out of it and have used it countless times since i got it.

now to just come up with the $5000 of shit i just salivated all over. ive got a plan, now i just need the truck and the time!

oh.. and getting back home to the US would be a good start ;)

Put some dry ice on the bottom of the cooler w/ normal ice over that and you can have a cooler stay cold for around a week depending on how much dry ice and how often you open it.

ooh... a fridge! yes, that would be nice. or a Yeti cooler. but they're SOOO expensive!
I usually hop around enough that I can find somewhere to get ice...plus here in MT it usually gets below freezing at night so the ice replenishes itself.
