Have any of you SoCal guy ever make the trip down to El Golfo de Santa Clara, Sonora? Its Only and hour from San Luis AZ and an hour and half from Calexico, CA? Its one of the last places in Mexico you can drive on the beach, no police, and enjoy a cold one with no worries?

I'd say go for it, Sonora its very peaceful compared to TJ (BC that is) and I can guarantee you wont be caught on a cartel shooting, I have lived on Tijuana for 25 years now, and haven't got caught on one yet (cross my fingers) but right know that has gone down a lot, I can't say that it has stopped, but compared to the end of last year and the begining of this the shootings have gone down around 80 to 90%, so I wouldn't worry to go there, its a nice place, and its away from where the shootings happen anyway.

This area is very calm. I used to live by the border town of San Luis and have never heard of any cartel shooting/killings in the 15 years that i resided there. As a matter of fact they just built a new road from El Golfo to Rocky Point, the newest Spring Break area.

El Golfo is a cool place. Is the El Capitan bar still on the beach? We used to run our Jeeps across the sand dunes and end up in El Golfo. Hope it hasn't changed much.

Yeah I know, next time try going thru the toll road, there is only one (and not always) so you can get there faster

Oh, Ok, to Puerto Nuevo there are 2 toll boots, one in Playas de Tijuana and one on Rosarito, but actually those are the cheaper ones in Mexico, if you go to Tecate and Mexicali, those are expensive, I think the ones to Puerto Nuevo are around 2.50 to 3.50 dlls each, so you paid 14 dlls on toll, so how many lobsters did you eat to expend the other 385 dlls?????........ ;)
