This is what I’m feeling is correct. Look how the mortality rate is getting lower and lower.

34 year old just died of CV19 in Pasadena. I live a few min from there and work in Pasadena.

    https://www.radio.com/news/34-year-old-man-dies-from-coronavirus

Says he was considered high risk since he had asthma and frequent bronchitis as a child, but had supposedly "outgrew" it according to his family. Also beat testicular cancer in 2016. Sad and unnerving to have a young case so close to where my family and I are every day.

Probably, I would think anybody with decreased lung function since the virus primarily targets the lungs. I'm not an expert tho so :notsure:

I'm sure they are, if this doesn't scare smokers/vapers into quitting then nothing will. Outside my work I still see a few older guys (50s or so) taking smoke breaks together even today. Crazy. Glad I quit smoking a few years ago, still afraid though of it working against my favor if this virus finds me.

Thanks @jberry813 for monitoring and putting out good information. Thanks especially for that nice digestible summary.

Here's another stat site that I've been using: https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

The most compelling news for me is that China has apparently successfully flattened the curve by using strict social isolation. We need to quit pretending like we know better. The more times this virus is transmitted, the more opportunities there are for mutation.

There's also a big anti-mask sentiment in the US (combined with a dose of racism), and a lot of science that shows they are not very effective. But what they are effective at is reminding the wearer not to stick their filthy fingers in their nose and mouth.

My buddy who works in the ER says he saw 6 patients last night presumed to have the virus (test takes 3-5 days to get back). They ruled out all other options. He said ALL six of those people were smokers (vaping is included), over the age of 70, or were immunocompromised. Almost everyone who is younger and healthy is fine. The reason we are distancing is to protect those in the population who are most at risk.

True but given the huge shortage of masks, I think they should still only be worn by the people that need them (health workers and those that are sick), not those that are well...unless they are caring for a sick person.

I did hear on the news this AM that they are cranking out millions of new masks right now that should be ready soon, as well as making industrial ones available to the healthcare industry. So that's good news

    This timeline is terrifying.

March 2, goes to Florida for work and visits Disneyworld Orlando
March 7, develop cough w/blood after visiting Disneyworld Orlando.
March 9, flies back to LA w/fever. Immediately goes to ER then self-quarantines
March 13, test results come back positive for COVID-19
March 14, ambulance to ICU, lungs 70% blocked by pneumonia
March 19, succumbs to his illness after being on a ventilator.

Guy was 34 w/childhood asthma and bronchitis. Considered at risk, not high risk.

ETA: He also survived testicular cancer in 2016, which as @Tacotruck7 points out makes him immuno-compromised and much higher risk than normal.

Maybe. The typical vape mix of 70vg/30pg is relatively harmless, so there's not much risk there. The nicotine itself is probably not great when combined with covid.

Man when it hits someone hard, it really hits them. The range of situations this thing can produce is terrifying.

Also... I was in Orlando on March 2 as well....so far so good.

He also was immunocompromised to having cancer previously. That's a big factor.
