I was considering getting a soft top, mainly for camping purposes- are they suitable for that use? is one brand or style better than another for this purpose?

need protection from inclement weather- will have a large pad & sleeping bag underneath

    thanks in advance

I've slept in my Bestop Supertop numerous times while camping. The short bed is kinda cramped with the tailgate up and the windows in place, but it's very nice. Completely leak proof, except for one small section in the corner near the passenger rear door. Duct tape took care of it. It's very convenient, but if you're thinking about camping in snow, forget it. Way too cold. I slept with the windows down in the desert for a breeze, it was very nice.

Do want. I need something that folds clear of the box, or is very easy to remove, as I carry dirtbikes sometimes...

The Bestop ^^ Folds forward and flat in less than 10 seconds to give you full functionality and space of the bed.

curious if the rear window could be propped up some way, thinking it might allow the tailgate to be down???

They are independent of each other. The rear window can be closed with the tailgate opened, or vice versa. There are two straps that hold the rear window in a rolled up position as well if you'd like.

I've used my bestop for camping as well. The short bed does suck, but I barely fit sleeping diagonal. They don't keep warmth, so make sure you have a good sleeping bag. The trip below, it was 30 degrees over night. When I woke up, frost was all over.

And yes, it'll hold moisture out

I've "slept" in 24 degrees below freezing in that thing, but it was dry. And yeah...it's pretty much a hardshell at that point.

I've actually slept with one of these in the back with me

Not sure how healthy that is, like if the propane leaked or anything, but it worked and I was cozy as hell.

I had it on, and right when I was about to fall asleep, I got up to turn it off. Then in the early morning when I woke up to the cold, I turned it on and slept for another few hours. Worked out great.

Oh another thing, I keep an empty bottle with me in the back so that if I need to take a leak, I just go in there instead of having to get out and messing with the back part and tailgate. Then I just throw it out in the morning and use a fresh one for the next day :D
