Sub'd to see how the tape holds up! I may end up doing something similar. Awesome job!

    Looks great man!
I have a group 31 battery on the way and the solar panel is the next purchase. I'm going with a 100 watt hard panel on the rack but I really like the film on the roof idea. Nice instal!

I thought about this yesterday. (Slow, huh?)
I didn't mean so hot to melt anything. Just enough heat to simulate a hot summer day so it doesn't happen going down the road at high speed.
If you have a laser thermometer you could gauge the heat applied better.

I'll try it on a test piece since i have extra tape and wrap. I'll just use a plastic bottle to simulate the smooth plastic-ish surface of the panel. I might have a pull scale somewhere to figure out the pull force and i do have a laser temp gun.

Awesome thank you for the updates! This is all new to me so basically the charge controller works just like the voltage regulator in the alternator? The panel charges and when the batt gets up to around 14 or so volts the charge controller stops the juice to the batt to prevent over charging. Then when the batt gets down to whatever the set voltage is it kicks back in and charges again.

More or less. There are PWM(cheaper, smaller) and MPTT(expensive, more efficient, more current/voltage handeling) controllers, they work in different ways but that's the basics.

Maybe you can look into something to 'seal' the edge of the leading tape. Something like nail polish, but not sure you want that on the paint ....... just an idea.

Nice work, thanks for posting -- I've been mulling over adding a solar panel.
