Approximately a year. As far as I know it can be programmed to GMRS frequencies. I'm no radio expert, but the friend who set it up said that the frequency he left it on is a GMRS channel. Here's a link to the radio: https://www.amazon.com/BaoFeng-UV-5R-Dual-Radio-Black/dp/B007H4VT7A

Just chiming in. Yes it can be programmed to GMRS frequencies with the USB cable. Make sure you are transmitting on low power only and on specific channels. Some GMRS are 0.5W and some are 2W. The normal setting, 5W, will put you in violations of FCC regulation. If I remember off the top of my head you hold the # button and a little L will show on the top left. The L means it will only transmit at 2W.

Make sure you Google it and not take just my word for it.

Do you have a link for the ram mount? Or can I buy just the ram mount off you?

Thank you. I'm definitely not well-versed in all of this.

I believe so, GMRS band has limited transmit wattage. Again Google it. It's been a while since I've looked at this stuff.

You're supposed to only use a "type approved" radio. Baofeng makes GMRS specific radio that's legal, but I highly doubt anyone would care. Just keep it on lowpower like zeroexone said.
