Has anyone modified or built a bed extender to be solid and not pass-through/see-through?
Maybe one that can flip to act as a cargo divider when not in use

Not sure why no aftermarket companies sell them, such as fabricating it from metal
Seems like it would be useful for camping/sleeping in a 5 foot bed.
Because with a camper shell or soft top, it could make the bed longer to have room for your feet but still be protected by the elements, not have them bitten off by wild animals outside, etc.
and if it had a top/roof section (maybe removable) that would provide full coverage on the lower half, all the way back to whatever topper the truck has

With a solid extender you're potentially going to block at least one of your turn and brake lights from the view of drivers behind you. Some of the older extenders were more square. Newer versions are angled and longer in the center to prevent this from happening.

IMO, It will be much easier to cover an extender with netting or some type of fabric cover than to build one. If you plan on having it swing like the factory one, it's likely has to be curved to prevent hitting the camper shell or clear the wheel well.

    Still in planning phase ...
Yep, get a tailgate net the length to got from one end of the OEM bed extender to the other and attach. They don't usually (none that I could find) with attachment straps on the top and bottom, easy fix with short cinch straps.

Honestly that sounds like a great idea

I wonder what extenders are compatible with Total Chaos bed stiffeners

just found this DIY showing how to make it work with an Amp Research one
