Thieves got into my truck, no damage must have been unlocked and stole a backpack with dirty clothes, a small plano box with miscellaneous items and my edc syderco. Ive heard of a hack where someome can start the truck with the shell of the original fob case. Is this true? do I need to worry that if they come back they can steal the truck? the original fob case was in the plano box in case the battery on the after masrket went dead.

Sorry, I’m not following- did they get the fob?
Just the plastic shell (minus the guts) won’t do anything to start it.
Either way, I think you can have the dealer remove that fob from the truck’s memory.

Its all in the chipboard, you can hold lock and simultaneously double press unlock to turn the keyfob’s constant 315 MHz reporting off

as I think about it they would probably need the original circuit board to start it and that was not in the car.

We don't have any room in our jails to prosecute all of the jack asses in this shity city. If we did, I would start with the jerk offs that drive a tesla.:hattip:

I do not think you crossed a line there, but self-caution is not a bad thing.

Come on over to Phoenix. Several neighborhoods in east PHX are nice and they let you own one or more of those bang-bang thingies if it makes you feel safe.

I use one of these on the steering wheel. Yes, it can be defeated but I make sure the handle sticks up above the dash in plain view. Also, I always lock my truck by touching the driver door handle then click the Fob to lock again as I walk away. With this habit I’ve never left it unlocked.

Yeah it doesn’t have to be in the car, they just have to be near the key itself to get the 315 MHz signal onto a repeater

That is terrible. Sorry to hear that. I have a few Spyderco's. And some others. Thinning down the herd here. If you see one you like I'll give you a good price. Let me know if you are interested. I have more, but those are in a different spot.

Thanks for the support and responses. I do have one of those big bang thingies, but I'm in CA. As far as the Spyderco, it was a ss delica, easily found Amazon, but that is a cool collection.

89 degrees currently. 102 for a high by Monday. You can walk the hiking trails all night if you are parked before they close the in-gate (out-gate never closes).

No bang-bang needed for a midnight hike in the 16 mile by 6 mile park.

    Just saying ...

It's not paranoid, it's checking into how to protect your property from being broken into or worse.

I don't think it was political, but I will say the COC is pretty against politics in general..just mentioning as I noticed you're fairly new to this great community.

I used to work in a fairly high crime area in CT (Bridgeport). One of my coworkers who lived in that area had a car alarm that paged him in the event of a break in attempt.

He got in trouble with the police because one night his pager went off, and when he investigated he found someone in the process of trying to steal his car stereo.

My co-worker went after the thief with a baseball bat (apparently landing numerous hits) and while sympathetic, the police actually charged him with assault.

I don’t know the resolution of his case, but I do know there can be potential ramifications for aggressively protecting your property. Just be careful. While it sounds great in our head, being charged for beating up a thief is going to be an expensive defense.

    Non yet.
If the vehicle is equipped with garage door openers or you leave on in there then they can open the garage and take what's
in there or worse. I have started to turn garage door off at night to prevent that.

Yup..besides the criminal piece, the worry of getting sued for everything I own is what usually stops me from similar. I will admit to giving into my instincts as your coworker did when I was younger and not as wise.
