Someone teach me how to zerk.

Is it a 4wd? AFAIK, the 2wd model only has the 3 zerks on the drive shaft at every u-joint. If you have the 4wd model, it is equipped with a second drive shaft off the transfer case(?) With another 2 zerks on those u-joints.

Same with me, I have a 4WD 2011 manual transmission and only have one zerk per joint for a total of 3. I tried to find 5 but did not.

Are you supposed tp pump until the old grease comes out which was the idea to replace it, right?

 

On my 2012, there are 3 zerks on the ends of the bearing caps, and 2 zerks in the U-Joint housing.... Here, read this. It's got pics!...

Yes mine is a 4x4 and believe me I was under it inches away looking and feeling for more. Found only the three, one at each U.

 

I honestly have never heard of doing this at all. If anyone can post a link to the grease gun/grease used I would appreciate it very much.
My truck has around 30K and I have never even heard of such. Thank goodness for running across this thread.

Yeah always clean the excess, otherwise it's just a dirt magnet.

 

My 2011 4wd auto tansmission has 5 grease fittings. 2 towards the front and 3 towards the rear.

Yea I saw that article and studied it before going under the truck. Some of us only have three. Also note that our Zerts are on the outside of the U making them easier to reach.

I will do a triple check this am, but pretty sure I will not find anymore.

If I do I will man up and say I screwed up and Beer is on me.

2014 DCSB 4x4 bought in Dec 2013.

 

OK, checked again this am only 3. One at front, one in middle and one at back.

I will still give you a beer.

 

This means there are 2 grease zerks on the front driveshaft and 3 grease zerks on the rear driveshaft for a total of 5 under the truck

 

Anyone got a pic of this? I'm trying to figure out exactly where the grease is supposed to come out?

 

Unless someone beats me to it, I'll show you where the grease comes out when I get home. Additionally, I will take pictures of all 5 fittings for my 4wd to alleviate any misunderstanding for those who can't find them.

just greased my 5. And yes it comes out inside that area.

 

Thanks...that is what I figured. I can't get it to come out. I think I'm having issues with my grease gun, since I'm not getting a good flow of grease. Damn air...can't purge it I guess.

 

You need to be finding your front driveshaft first and foremost. Only then will you find the extra 2 zerks.

 

Who would've thought zerking could be so difficult? :derp:

 

Any reason why old grease will not purge out the back? The grease gun is hard to get off the zerk, so I'm sure it is attached fine. Grease appears to be coming out fine when it's not on the zerk.
