I’m about to totally redo my audio setup in my DCLB Tacoma. About to install an Alpine ILX-107 head unit, a JL Audio 10”, JL Audio Component 6x9 and Tweeters for the front and JL Audio 6x9 for the back. Is it worth it to have the installer go ahead and do some sound damping too? Has anyone else found it necessary after replacing so much?

Sound deadening is worth it even if you AREN'T upgrading anything.

It is by far the best thing you can do for audio quality (as well as decreasing outside noise, which my wife appreciates in my less-than-silent truck)

Expect to pay for it. Labor isn't cheap. Make sure you use good product, and not super cheap stuff. Especially if you live in a hot climate. I have seen cheap deadening fall right off inside a door panel here in alabama summers.

Even if you only do 1-2 sq/ft per door, that's a lot of difference. If you're willing to spend the money, go full baked potato and have them cover the whole door.

I highly recommend doing the whole job yourself, I don't trust shops to not cut corners when doing this type of work. But to answer your question, yes do the sound deadener. At least do it where your speakers are located, I chose to do both doors and the rear wall (because my sub is in front of the rear wall). Most of the road noise will come through the floor/ wheelwells and window seals so it wont eliminate road noise unless you do the entire interior, but it will still help tremendously with sound quality. I went with Dynamat, it's not the cheapest, but it is some of the best out there. RaamMat is another good option.

I did a Silverado short box that needed new seats and headliner. While it was apart I sound deadened (just dynamat type stuff) the floors, ceiling, doors and most of the back panel. I didn't go crazy but it definitely a quieter ride than my other Silverado short box.

My new to me Taco is a great truck but I have a bit more tire and road noise than I had hoped for a car with only 13000 miles on it. If I do a new system I will probably pony up for some sound deadening work, not only for the stereo but for the ambient road noise.

Sound dampening makes a big difference. I used Stinger Roadkill in one of my other vehicles. It's just as good as other brands but a little lower cost.

Edit: one downside to sound dampening is that if you get a door ding it is very hard for a shop to use the PDR option to fix it. They'd have to remove the dampening first so the labor cost is higher.

Yep, also if your window motor ever craps out on you you're gonna have to remove the deadener from the interior part of the door to get to it...

After getting quotes from installers locally. Once before i purchased any equipment and again after purchasing all the equipment..other than the wires. Both times they hit me with a quote that just shook me out the door. I may not be a pro but i know I would rather take two weeks prepping and doing it myself slowly than pay all that. Would have cost me up around 3 grand, and that is not even with a Sub. I did it myself instead. With https://www.amazon.com/Kicker-43CSS...&s=gateway&sprefix=kicker+6x9+,aps,181&sr=8-1 and https://www.amazon.com/Kicker-43DSC...xial+speakers&qid=1555572050&s=gateway&sr=8-3
but from crutchfield..even though metra mounts for 6x9s dont line up..at least not for me nor many many others...so https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00801K2XQ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

used abs plastic to mount under the drivers seat and shelf above the vents..and replaced the deck with Kenwood DDX9903S using Maestro RR to retain factory control.
Point behind all that is for a budget system these speakers really do some door rattling. I hate the crazy price of dynamat..and of all places my wife finds good ol 3M sound dampening 10 ea. 19"x19" sheets at Oreillys Auto Parts for like 97 bucks...ive always trusted 3M for everything else so i took the dive..and i must say..i am pleased with the application style i used..which was around the openings...not smacked on the door itself. It molded perfectly and felt like i was using dynamat. either way.

sorry for the long winded...lol I am just proud i didnt break any damn clips on this yota..all in all id say the whole system cost around 1200-1500 including the speedwire and 4 gauge power..fuse..all that..plus maestro rr is a necessity and adds a little to the price.

^^^^^ Every single post in this thread is "spot on" with great information. I started sound deadening my cars back in 2010. Woah, what a difference it makes. The biggest change was on one car that had irritatingly tinny sounding doors. I followed information from the SoundDeadeningShowdown and learned a lot from the following link about deadening a diesel Hummer. Do you know the sound and feel you get when how to close a door on a big Mercedes or Maybach? The feeling is like closing the door on a bank vault. That's how it turned out.

    https://www.flashoffroad.com/Improvements/Insulate_diesel/crockwell/soundproof2.html

OP - I'm glad to see this thread and wanted to post so I will have in history to refer to your information for my Tacoma deadening project. Thank you.

Oh not to forget- one of the side the benefits from deadening that I didn't expect. Mine increased the insulation R-value of the passenger compartment. The A/C started cooling better in the scorching summers after deadening.

I did sound dampening with Second Skin Damplifier and sound proofing with 1/4" MLV in my 2017 Tacoma, also applied closed cell foam behind door panels. I also just recently did the same in my Toyota MR-2 Spyder convertible in preparation for a sound system install in the near future. I recommend it, good for keeping the road noise out (or at least reducing the road noise) and the music in, and also keeps your truck from becoming a noisy rattling vehicle from vibrations in metal and plastic.

BTW I have plastic adapters for 6.5" speakers, if OP or anyone needs them, you can have them. Just gotta pay shipping.
EDIT: just noticed OP is using 6x9's, but if anyone needs them the offer still stands.

especially pay attention (sounddeadenershowdown) to how to apply the vibration dampening. (i.e. dynamat)
don't apply it to every square inch.
example; our roofs are extremely loud in a light rain shower...i have only applied 10 3x12 strips to the roof (double cab)and there is no rain noise at all.
prob could have done it with less and have same results

if you have someone else do it, they will cover everything and charge you big bucks.

i get irritated at the TV car shows that coat the entire under body in dynamat (because they sponser them) and probably add a couple hundred pounds to the vehicle.

I recently did my truck with Noico 80mm. Inner and out door skins in both front and rear doors. I also did the rear wall of the cab. I also added a layer of neoprene in the front doors as well. Altogether it cost around $85-90 and made a big difference in road noise and stereo sound quality.
I'm sure going full CCF and MLV would be awesome, but I didn't want to spend that much money on it.
    Here's the Deadener I used:

Just did this with the exact stuff. Made a nice improvement. And like said above I didn’t do the whole entire door shell.the strips in the door were about 6x18. Now im upgrading the speakers
