If your willing to throw the money (7-10k) at a real SAS I will tell you where you can get a pair of 9.5" LC axles for cheap. But I'm not gonna give it up just to watch them sit in someone elses garage forever.

Thats where people go wrong on SAS. The axles aren't the expensive part, its all the other crap.

And you couldn't pay me to run portals. Seem like a good idea, but not so much in practical application, especially in something that likes on the street most the time. You can get the front and rear for well under $1k but by the time they are under the truck and functional you'll be about 10K I would guess. Less if you go springs up front, but not by as much as you might think. I doubt you can do it, geared and locked, under 7

    I'm not sure about that.
The guy has the tg axle, longfields, birfs, highs steer and some other misc stuff minus the 3rd for asking $1700.
So $1500+shipping +$300 for a used 3rd with proper gears, springs, shackles, front hanger, misc stuff. Probably another $1200 including misc labor. $2700 total.

That's for the sas only. Not including my conversion.

Bare third is gonna cost you 2-300. Gears another 3, ARB is 1k. 2-300 for someon to set them up. SAS without lockers is like ARs with 10rd mags. Not really worth the trouble.

There's a good price list brake down stickied in the SAS subforum I think.

found it. And this is without hydro assist steering:

And I wouldn't go portals anyway. I was just suggesting that over
Yea. I've seen it and read thru it quite a bit. I'm talking about a used 3rd on cl, nc4x4, or various other forums.
Not some full blown new cryo geared, arb setup. I'm not building a dedicated off road vehicle. If the guy hadn't sold the 3rd, it would have nearly been 3/4 of an SAS build minus springs (easy, cheap find) and misc parts.
$10K for just the SAS is way out of my class and unnecessary for what I want the truck to do.

Even without all that it's gonna be expensive. Just the labor alone if you're not gonna do it yourself should be a couple grand. I'd be ecstatic for you if you prove me wrong though.

Realistically if you could SAS for a few grand this board would be full of SASed rigs. Instead I see a lot of people with small parts accumulations that gave up when they discovered what it was REALLY gonna cost.

Again, prove me wrong. I'd love to go wheel with ya. Just trying to throw some insight in there. Don't want someone else to spend a bunch of money then bail and waste it

I still think the LC axles front and rear are a better way to go through

    Lc?

I think there's not alot of people here with SAS because they move on to other forums that are a bit more hardcore. Pirate, I h8mud, nc4x4.
This forum generally as a whole isn't geared or has much of a following for that.

I would consider myself a proficient welder. I'm also single and no kids so time is not an issue.

Parts are out there and avail. Just gotta put feelers out and get a network going.
Just a couple years ago I bought an a340f and j shift tcase with super low miles for $250.
Gathering proper parts is probably the hardest.
But it's nice to hash out stuff about it with someone else.
I'll go back and look over things in the SAS thread.

LC-Land Cruiser. There's a member a few hours from you with a FJ80 9.5" rear and an FJ60 9.5" front that I know he'll let go of. He bought them for his first gen and ran out of money and interest to do the job. I believe they are the correct width for what you're doing. If you're changing axles there is NO reason to stay on 8" ring gears. If you're interested in them let me know and I'll get you his contact info.
