I sincerely doubt that you'd have 40-60+ people at your house on Thanksgiving.

    EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it is and the standard should be flip flopped to cater to the one that this country was founded on....Christianity.

Yeah maybe but that's like expecting everybody that wants to have family over or have a party on occasion to do the same...don't tell me it won't get stretched to that extreme. If you wanted to have wrench meets at your house, would you like to have to ask permission? Too many cars in front of houses for that but people can park their cars on the street instead of using their driveways and it's no problem or anyone else's business? People who can't find their driveways on daily basis instead of what is being referenced here should be the ones needing a permit.........

I agree you would not need permission for regular wrench meets at somebody's house, but to simply ignore the fact that you would be impacting the neighborhood would be wrong. Also, while the action would not be criminally wrong, there are civil implications, and they should not be ignored.

That's why we have two courts Civil and Criminal.

Harden your bark, there are storms on the horizon.
i've got nothing against any religious group gathering for worship, but if it's an inconvienience for the rest of the neighborhood, something needs to be done. maybe park at Target or something and carpool to the house? rent driveway space from the neighbors? surely they can find a compromise. it does sound like that particular fellowship needs to find a permanent house of worship with a parking lot. i'm wondering if the pastor gets a break on his real estate tax? :)

things like this are why i'm glad i live where we have real yards to park in and no zoning BS. it takes a little longer to get to the store, but rural living has plenty of it's own advantages. subdivisions and gated communities are WAY overrated IMO. also...i cannot understand why anyone in their right mind would live somewhere with an HMO.

bottom line: there's just too many damned people trying to occupy too little space.

i agree. i'm a youth leader/pastor, but i'm all for being good neighbors. what good is a church is you're just pissing off the people you live next to.

If the City's zoning code requires that a conditional use permit is required to operate a religious facility, be it a church or a bible study, then there's a reason to it. A CUP is a discretionary action, subject to conditions that would involve public safety, I imagine in this case occupancy limits, ingress/egress from the building, as well as traffic, but also other conditions to mitigate potential impacts to adjacent property owners. So a CUP is intended to reduce impacts to the surrounding area, but allow the project proponent their entitlement.

Many of the arguments here compare a bible study/religious gathering to something like a mod day or a family get together/birthday party etc, but they are apples to oranges. It is highly unlikely that every week you'll host one of these types of events at your residence, and if you did, chances are it would be for commercial purposes, which in that case, it would make more sense to establish a hall or rec. center in a commercially zoned property.

A bible study/religious center (which is basically what this house is) is for all intents and purposes, a commercial use (ie people from the public occupy the house, use it's facilities etc) and therefore should most definitely be subject to acquiring an entitlement that is conditioned so that the members can still participate and the surrounding neighborhood is impacted less.

i dont think think has anything to do with Christianity and i know for a fact their is not more attacks on christianity than any other religion....if any other group gathered once a week and backed up the streets they would get complaints as well...itsmyturn tallyman and the others that said they need a place are right, you have to respect the neighbors
