iirc that is the amount Spacex asked for. The more they ask for, the more they would be obligated to change their design in accordance with their sponsor's desires/demands. They're not trying to milk a government agency for all their worth like so many others. The best part is the elevator is something they would have had to make anyways.

Elon has compared Starship to the railroad in the 1800's. If it succeeds he may be right. There would be a few more hurdles to overcome after that, mainly water and oxygen production in places like the moon and mars. Once that's proven you may see some eccentric billionaires coming together and creating tourist destinations on them. If that comes to fruition mining companies will probably start producing locally harvested resources for such projects. Most sources talk about this bringing the cost down to where people will be able to sell their house to afford the ticket to moon/mars. The reality is, once those milestones are hit, there will be a TON of employer sponsored trips. That is, if you have good experience in trade skills. The sad part is that is unlikely to ever happen if Nasa is the boss. Nasa focuses on exploration and learning, with exciting adventures for a select few.

NASA is already working on that, at least for Mars that has a slight atmosphere. The version on Perseverance generates 10 grams of oxygen an hour. If my conversions between oxygen weight in grams to volume in liters that equates to about 7L/hr of pure oxygen from the small scale unit (humans need about 23L/hr).

I remember the Fry's in OC had the Space Shuttle mock up. It was pretty cool. Back in the days of actually going to and buying electronic components I guess.

Each Fry's store had it's own theme. One of the ones here was Atlantis, and they had several VERY large fish tanks. I wonder what's going to happen to the exotic fish in them now...

I can't blame online shopping on their demise. They were in a position in which they could have competed if they really wanted to. From what I saw over the last few years with the local ones, they were determined to stick to their old way of doing things. You had to question pretty much everything you bought from them, especially computer components. I grew in the habit of unboxing things in the parking lot before driving home. They did not seem like they were interested in saving the business, hiring anyone that could, or even plugging the massive leaks in their sinking ship. I'm more surprised they didn't sell out to Amazon in the end. Bestbuy is next.

There's a lot of unique fry's art over the years that I'd love to take home, heh.

I grew up with the UFO being the closest store. Alice was cool too.

Oregon's Fry's officially had no theme.

You live pretty close to me. I know them both well.

I used to love to go to Fry's even if I wasn't buying anything that day (although I usually did).

I remember when it was so busy you would have to wait in line just to get RAM or a hard drive (before waiting in another line to buy it).

The last time I went into a Fry's was about three years ago in the Oxnard store and it was almost completely empty.

I immediately started searching if they were going bankrupt and at the time they were denying it but the writing was on the wall.

The only thing surprising is it took this long.

RIP Fry's, Comp USA and Circuit City. My Favorites since the 90's.

Best Buy can die and I would not miss it.

Takes about ten minutes to get the box off the porch and have it up and running. For the first 5-10 minutes I had a great connection (78 down, 17 up) but for the last 1.5 hours the router light has just been flashing with no wifi connection to the router at all.

Right about 39*. Satellite coverage is definitely slimmer than further north but from checking the last few weeks it seems like there's always one covering my area.

Supposedly it can take up to a full day for the dish to figure out the coverage pattern and obstacles in its LOS. That being said people are pretty consistently seeing the modem/router combo drop the WiFi connection with devices for some reason. I'm guessing running your own router off the Starlink combo might help, even if you have to run it as just an access point.

I pulled it in for the night and I'll try again in the morning. I'm waiting on the weatherproof box to install the router and power supply in outside because I can't drill holes thorough the wall of my rental house. I'll probably wake up at 730ish like usual and let it sit out all day.

Can you post a pic of the connections for the router?

What’s the small rectangular thing with the angles at the seven o’clock position from the dish?

How’d you get it so quickly?

Also, if you’re inclined, I started a Starlink thread here:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/the-starlink-super-mega-bs-thread.709571/

    Thanks for posting

SpaceX has an app for placement of the dish.

Uses the camera to help pinpoint where you have clear access to the northern sky.

The white angled thing is the router, the black is the power supply. The router has one aux port. I signed up for the beta a long time ago when it first went online and got lucky I guess.

Linus did a video on setting one up through one of his channels. Those were two of his setup comments and in the middle of the review his unit dropped the WiFi connection. In the comments it seems like the WiFi drop is a minor issue that some units have.
