Spare Tailgate Camera Wire Harness

Does all Tacoma's come with spare camera wire harness connectors? I'm guessing a lot of people remove their tailgate and forget to unplug them? Found this one in the glove box.

I didn't get one of those in my 19, maybe it's another thing they deleted in the 19's, like the bed storage.

 

Should of been in the glovebox with the tailgate lock key

 

Hmmmm, my tailgate lock key is in my fob.

 

You should of received a full size key for the tailgate lock... key fob works, but there is a “normal” size key as well. If you have neither item (camera harness protector & full size tailgate key), contact the dealer and inquire WTF... someone forgot to include that packet with your vehicle delivery.

 

Separate tailgate keys were only a thing on the 2016's (at least with the smart key) ...unless they stopped doing that and then started doing it again. Not likely.

 

Wrong... my 2018 came with the tailgate key... and the camera harness connector protection.

 

WTF? I got no tail gate key!

Not sure what Toyota is thinking then. I know 16's had a separate tailgate key, but 17's use the smart fob key. I guess they changed their mind again in 18...??

 

Shit...my ignition keys fits the tailgate, and glove box. Guess that's why I didn't get one.

OK, I'll try and correct this as best I can.... in 2016 and maybe part of 2017, Toyota included a tailgate key because the tailgate didn't have a "laser-cut" cylinder for the tailgate yet. The door key was laser-cut and the tailgate was H-Key. Later, they got the details worked out - only two keys are issued to H-Key holders, because the key is the same. Laser-cut keys get three keys (2 fobs and a key). This is because not all dealers upgrade to the electric tailgate lock (aka Pop-N-Lock, although it's not that brand), requiring use of a key. Clear as mud?

EDIT: oh, and if you didn't get your plug kit... go see your dealer, EVERYBODY gets the kit.

EDIT 2: There are two adapter/plugs... one for the body side, one for the tailgate side. They protect the connector/pins until you put the tailgate back on.

 

My dealer told me they have never heard of the camera harness protectors and it is probably a JDM part even though it is in the manual.

Not sure about that. My 18 didn’t come with one. Trdor model, the guy saying it does is in a limited. That may be why.
