The extra weight will help a lot when wheeling, it will even out the distribution since most of the weight in our trucks is in the front half.

Can't get my 255/85 in the stock location. I got rid of the tabs but the hitch is causing the tire to touch the diff. Anyone got any ideas?

You can tip it as it goes up, but then when it is fully up, you come really close to rubbing the top of the pumpkin. Take any hard bump, and your tire is going to be a really quick bumpstop!
Only real way I know is to remove the hitch or go for an offroad bumper with an integrated hitch.

I just designed this. I'm still deciding if I'm going to have it made. The concept is that it will hold the tire at an angle against the back of the bed, and when needed, be able to swing up and hold the tire on the bed rail - bottom feet swing out. This will allow for longer items to slide under the tire, making use of the full bed.

Let me know if you have any experience or comments to improve the design. Thanks.

Note: the carrier is centered (shown offset for some reason), and the tubing is 0.120" HREW, not 0.20".

I will probably use some kind of strap / bungee to hold it in place. I thought about adding locking mechanisms to the design, but opted to keep it simple - at least for Gen 1.0.

I think I may go with a rubber pad wrapped around the base connector to distribute the load. The other option would be to use a bed mat.

Are you running an aftermarket bumper/hitch? I was able to fit mine in the stock location. It's basically touching the hitch but there's enough room between the diff.
