Recently got new tires and rims 265/70/17. Of course I got a flat within a month and had to use stock spare on rear. I only drove about 5 miles to the shop to get a replacement. What are the chances I damaged my diff? I’m gonna get a full sized spare now. Is it ok if I just get a cheap 265/75/16 that way I don’t have to get a new spare wheel?

^Negligible additional wear on your open diffs.

I've driven on mismatched spares on my Tacoma twice with no issues. First time was 1200 miles (3x 32" + 31" spare). Second time was 200 miles (3x 35" + 32" spare). Unless you plan to be 1000+ miles from civilization, leave the factory spare as-is. When the time comes to replace the spare due to age (6 yrs, 2028), get a matching size then.

It's a Toyota :) you're good. Basically the diff thought you were on a long gentle turn for 5 miles, no damage done.

The stories of destruction are from enhanced differentials and transfer cases long term with mismatched tires.

No issue with either. Diffs do the work.

If you happen to need 4WD, that would even be just fine on loose surfaces.

get a used tire that is the same diameter as the 17's.

no harm but its best to plan ahead for things "before".......if you were far from home you could put spare on the front

Absolutely no damage was done to your diff. But don't quote me, I'm just some guy on the internet.

265/70 17 is the stock 4Runners size. Look for a 4Runner spare tire takeoff on marketplace.

I found a never used spare for $75.
