I put a small magnet into the hole and pulled out this ring, I can see the ground electrode in there too I assume still attached to the threads?

I tried a No.4 extractor but it won't budge and now I'm afraid I'll break it also.

I'd say spray it down again w/ blaster or liquid wrench & let it soak until morning. Then try with a 'jolting' motion. You do have the right tool, since you were afraid of breaking it 'cuz it dug in. :):fingerscrossed:

    Agreed

Start with the smallest extraction tool until you feel a good grip.
If I were you I would use liquid wrench and leave it for a few hours, perhaps spray it more than once

If the ground electrode is still there, it's going to be tough to use an extractor AND not poke the electrode enough so that it falls off into your cylinder port. IF you're able to get it out, make damn sure you use that magnet again and get any pieces out that might be down in the cylinder port.

I recommend using a straight fluted extractor. not the spiral fluted that has been mentioned. The straight fluted can be hammered in to force better grip vs the spiral that one can only hope threads itself into the orifice needing to be extracted.

And make sure you find a socket that will grip the extractor very well. You don't want to end up stripping a socket on the extractor and having something else lodged in there.

Back at it again, I'm using a No. 4 straight shank extractor this time, I can get it to bite but then it just spins. Thank you everyone for the help.

Hope you get it! I planned on doing the spark plugs on my Matrix this weekend and I'll admit this has me a bit spooked!

Well I broke a #4 extractor in the hole, so I'm guessing the head is coming off.:(
